Online casinos Colorado players can join under a state license don't exist: the Colorado Division of Gaming says the only legal online gaming in the state is sports betting. Here's what the Division says about internet casinos, how the licensed sportsbooks and mountain-town casinos work, what offshore sites involve in dollars, and where Bet Smart Colorado can help.

Colorado licenses online sports betting but no online casinos; the Division of Gaming said in September 2025 that sports betting is the only online gaming in the state.
The Division's FAQ says internet gambling is illegal under state and federal laws and that a Colorado agency can't help you recover money from an online site.
13 online and 10 in-person sportsbooks held Colorado licenses as of September 5, 2025, with a minimum age of 21.
No statewide sweepstakes casino ban was recorded in Colorado as of October 2026, per third-party reporting.

Are online casinos legal in Colorado?
No. Colorado has a regulated online market, but it covers sports betting only. In a September 5, 2025 Bet Smart release (opens in a new tab), the Colorado Division of Gaming said that the only online gaming in Colorado is sports betting. Online slots, blackjack and roulette for real money have no Colorado license.
That puts Colorado in an unusual middle position. Residents can bet on the Broncos or the Nuggets through a state-licensed app, and they can play slots in person in three historic mountain towns, but the licensed online casino games found in New Jersey or Michigan aren't available here. Colorado is not among the seven states that license online casinos, which our list of states with legal online casinos tracks.

What the Colorado Division of Gaming says about internet gambling
Colorado's regulator is unusually direct. The Division of Gaming, part of the Department of Revenue's Specialized Business Group, answers the question on its What is Legal? page (opens in a new tab). It states that internet gambling is illegal under state and federal laws, that betting from Colorado with online sites is illegal even if the site is licensed somewhere else, and that you have no recourse through a Colorado agency if something goes wrong.
Two details matter. First, the Division points to federal law, naming the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and the Wire Act, rather than citing a specific section of the Colorado Revised Statutes for internet gambling. Second, the no-recourse point is the practical one: if an offshore casino holds your withdrawal, voids a win or closes your account, the Division won't step in.
We report what Colorado's regulator says. We don't tell readers they will or won't face consequences; the Division's page doesn't describe prosecutions of individual players, and we don't speculate.
For the federal side, UIGEA bars gambling businesses from accepting card payments, transfers and checks connected to unlawful internet gambling, with legality defined by other federal or state law. The Wire Act covers businesses transmitting bets, and the First Circuit ruled on January 20, 2021 that it applies to bets on sporting events or contests.
Colorado sports betting: the one legal way to bet online
Colorado's first year of regulated sports betting ran from May 2020 to April 2021, according to the State Auditor. As of September 5, 2025, the Division listed 13 licensed online sportsbooks and 10 in-person sportsbooks. The minimum age is 21.

State Auditor highlights
The comparison with an offshore casino is instructive. A licensed Colorado sportsbook answers to the Division of Gaming, a state regulator you can contact. An offshore casino answers to its own terms and, at most, a foreign license.
Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek: Colorado's casino towns
Casino gaming in Colorado happens in person, in the historic towns of Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek, which the Division of Gaming lists on its legal gambling page. The Division doesn't publish a casino count on that page, so we don't give one.
Visiting one of those casinos and playing online differ in one way that matters most: a Colorado-licensed casino sits under the Division's supervision, while an offshore website doesn't. The math, though, is the same everywhere. A game's house edge sets the average cost of play, and it applies to every bet whether the wheel is in Black Hawk or on a phone screen.
A quick example: 100 spins of single-zero roulette at $5 a spin is $500 staked, and at the 2.7% house edge of a single-zero wheel the expected cost is $500 × 2.7% = $13.50. Variance means any one session can land far above or below that, but the average doesn't move in your favor.
Real money online casinos Colorado residents are offered
The real-money casino sites marketed to people in Colorado are offshore. No US state licenses or regulates them, and their own licenses, where they publish one at all, come from places such as Anjouan, while reviewers attribute others to Curaçao or Costa Rica or find none. Our explainer on offshore vs state-licensed casinos compares the two models side by side.

In plain terms, offshore play from Colorado means no state regulator for complaints, no state-backed protection if a casino folds with your balance, and withdrawal caps and verification rules written by the casino. Those are the trade-offs to weigh before any deposit.
Sweepstakes casinos in Colorado: no statewide ban yet
Sweepstakes casinos sell Gold Coins for entertainment play and give away Sweeps Coins that can be redeemed for cash prizes. They describe themselves as promotional sweepstakes rather than gambling, which is how they've operated in states without online casino licenses. Third-party reporting records no statewide sweepstakes casino ban in Colorado as of October 2026.
No ban isn't the same as a clear green light. Colorado's regulator says internet gambling is illegal, and current reporting shows no Colorado law written specifically for the dual-currency model. Elsewhere, lawmakers have been moving fast: recorded bans include California (January 1, 2026), New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Montana, Louisiana, Maine, Indiana, Tennessee and Oklahoma (November 1, 2026). See sweepstakes casino laws for the national picture and sweepstakes casinos in Colorado for the local detail.
The Colorado Lottery and daily fantasy sports
Colorado runs a state lottery, listed by the Division of Gaming among the state's legal forms of gambling. Whether tickets can be bought online, and the lottery's minimum age, aren't stated in the official sources we cite, so check with the Colorado Lottery directly.
Daily fantasy sports appear as a topic on the Division's legal gambling page, but the page doesn't spell out their current status. If paid fantasy contests matter to you, ask the Division or read the contest operator's state eligibility list before entering.
Denver, Colorado Springs and Aurora: deposits, payouts and weekly caps
The same state law covers Denver (about 741,000 residents in the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate), Colorado Springs (about 495,000) and Aurora (about 410,000). What separates one player's experience from another's is mostly the payment method, so it's worth understanding before choosing a site.
Cards are unreliable. Gambling transactions use merchant category code 7995, and many US issuers decline that code or treat a credit card gambling charge as a cash advance with fees. Crypto avoids the card networks, but the Federal Trade Commission warns that crypto payments generally can't be reversed and lack card protections, and prices swing hard: the CFPB noted Bitcoin was down more than 70% from its November 2021 high as of October 3, 2022.

Weekly caps decide how fast a large win actually reaches you. At a $2,500 weekly cap, a $10,000 balance takes at least four weeks to withdraw, before any pending period. SlotoCash's terms set a $5,000 weekly limit, which would halve that, but its payout-methods page also lists a $2,500 maximum per Bitcoin request and one request a week, so check which rule applies to you. Our guide to withdrawal limits covers how caps, pending periods and VIP exceptions interact.
How verification and withdrawals work at offshore casinos
Withdrawals at offshore casinos are usually blocked until your identity is verified, and that step is where many reported delays start. SlotoCash's own support page describes a one-time check before any payout, with photo ID and a recent utility bill; third-party reviewers say Decode asks for ID, proof of address, proof of payment ownership and a selfie with ID. The general process looks like this.
Before depositing, read the casino's KYC rules and banking page, noting the minimum withdrawal, weekly cap and fees.
Use a payment method in your own name; card deposits are usually checked against your profile details.
Upload a clear government photo ID and a recent utility bill or other proof of address.
Wait for written confirmation that verification is complete before requesting a withdrawal.
Request the withdrawal, and leave it pending rather than reversing it into your playable balance.
Keep copies of every document sent, every email and every transaction ID in case of a dispute.
Colorado casino bonuses and no deposit offers: the dollar math
Bonuses come with conditions, and the house edge applies to every dollar you wager while clearing them. Here's how a published offer works out in dollars.
SlotoCash's own bonus terms set 25x wagering on deposit plus bonus, with a $20 minimum deposit per bonus and a 200% match on the first deposit. Deposit $50, get $100 in bonus, and you must wager 25 × $150 = $3,750. On a slot with a 96.25% RTP, the house edge is 3.75%, so the expected cost is $3,750 × 3.75% = $140.63. Against a $100 bonus, the average result is about $40.63 behind. Some players win more and some lose more, but that's the center of the range.

No deposit offers look better but usually carry tighter caps. SlotoCash's general terms limit cashouts from free bonuses to between $25 and $200, and a third-party review lists a 50-spin no-deposit offer at Decode with 40x wagering and a $200 max cashout. Table games are often excluded or weighted lower, so check the terms before playing anything other than slots. Our expected value of a bonus guide shows the full method.
Gambling taxes for Colorado players
Winnings from a Black Hawk slot, a licensed sportsbook or an offshore website are all taxable federal income. Casinos that pay you directly report larger wins on a Form W-2G, and the IRS's 2026 rules work like this.
Slots, bingo and keno: a W-2G for wins of $2,000 or more, with no regular withholding.
Sports bets and other wagers: a W-2G when the win meets the threshold and is at least 300 times the stake.
Regular 24% withholding applies to certain wins, such as 300-times-the-stake payouts, where winnings minus the wager exceed $5,000.
Backup withholding of 24% can apply if you don't give the payer a correct taxpayer ID.
Losses are deductible only up to your winnings for the year. From the 2026 tax year, the 2025 tax law reportedly limits that deduction to 90% of losses, so check IRS guidance or a tax professional before filing. The IRS instructions for Form W-2G (opens in a new tab) give the official thresholds, and Colorado's state return may also count gambling income.

Frequently asked questions
Is any kind of online gambling legal in Colorado in 2026?
Only online sports betting is. The Colorado Division of Gaming said in September 2025 that sports betting is the only online gaming in the state, and 13 online sportsbooks held licenses at that point. Online casino games for real money have no Colorado license, and the Division's FAQ says internet gambling is illegal under state and federal laws. Our Colorado gambling laws page sets out the details and the federal statutes the Division cites.
Can I get in trouble for playing at an offshore casino in Colorado?
Colorado's regulator says betting from Colorado with online sites is illegal, even when a site is licensed elsewhere, and that you'd have no recourse through a Colorado agency. Its page doesn't describe prosecutions of individual players, and we don't predict outcomes. The clearest practical risk is financial: no state body will help recover a held withdrawal. Our page on whether you can get in trouble for playing online casinos covers the national picture.
How many licensed sportsbooks can Colorado bettors choose from?
As of September 5, 2025, the Colorado Division of Gaming listed 13 licensed online sportsbooks and 10 in-person sportsbooks. Regulated betting began in May 2020, according to the State Auditor's review of the first year, and bettors must be 21 or older. Because these operators answer to the Division, complaints have a state route that offshore casinos don't. Read more on the Colorado sports betting page.
How old do you have to be to bet in Colorado?
The minimum age for sports betting in Colorado is 21, according to the State Auditor's sports betting review. The casino and lottery minimum ages aren't stated in the official sources we cite, so confirm with the venue or the Colorado Lottery. Offshore casinos set their own rules, and their terms vary between 18 and 21. Our gambling age by state table compares the rules across the country.
Can Colorado residents play at sweepstakes casinos?
Colorado has no statewide law banning sweepstakes casinos, according to third-party reporting as of October 2026, but it hasn't passed one approving them either. The Division of Gaming's general position is that internet gambling is illegal. Many other states, including California, New York and New Jersey, have banned the dual-currency model outright. Our sweepstakes casinos Colorado page explains how Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins work and where the law could go.
Where are the casinos in Colorado?
Colorado's casinos are in three historic mountain towns: Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek, which the Division of Gaming lists on its legal gambling page. They're in-person venues supervised by the Division, unlike offshore casino websites. The house edge works the same way in both: it sets the average cost of every bet. Our house edge explained guide shows how to work out what a session costs in dollars.
Do Colorado players pay tax on casino winnings?
Yes. Gambling winnings are taxable federal income wherever you win them, including at offshore sites. For 2026 payments, slot, bingo and keno wins of $2,000 or more trigger a W-2G. Losses are deductible only up to your winnings, and from the 2026 tax year that deduction is reportedly capped at 90% of losses, so check IRS guidance before filing. See do I pay tax on casino winnings for more detail.
Which online casinos take players from Colorado?
None of the offshore casinos we cover publishes a complete list of US states it accepts, so we can't say any of them takes Colorado players. Check a casino's terms and registration page before depositing. Third-party reports say Decode refuses Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Washington, and that Slot Madness refuses Ohio. Remember that none is licensed by Colorado or any US state. Our real money casinos Colorado page compares the brands.
What's the fastest way to withdraw from an offshore casino in Colorado?
Bitcoin is usually the quickest listed method, but speed depends on verification and the casino's own processing. SlotoCash's banking page says Bitcoin withdrawals of $100 to $2,500 are processed within 48 business hours with no fee, while reviewers report pending periods of 7 to 10 days at Slot Madness. Weekly caps of $2,500 to $5,000 also limit how fast a big balance comes out. Our fast payout casinos Colorado page compares published times.
Where can I get gambling help in Colorado?
Bet Smart Colorado, the state's responsible gambling program at betsmart.colorado.gov, is the place to start. Nationally, call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) or chat at ncpgambling.org, any time of day; it's free and confidential. Gamblers Anonymous and GamTalk offer peer support, and blocking software such as Gamban can stop access to gambling sites. Our problem gambling help and support page lists more options.
What happens if an offshore casino won't pay a Colorado player?
You'd have to deal with the casino directly, because the Colorado Division of Gaming says a Colorado agency offers no recourse when you bet with online sites. That applies even if the site holds a foreign license. Start by checking the casino's terms for weekly caps, pending periods and verification rules, since many holds trace back to those. Keep every email, document and transaction ID, then escalate in writing. Our guide on how to file a casino complaint lists the routes that exist, and do offshore casinos pay out explains what reviewers report.
Can I use a credit card at online casinos from Colorado?
Often not reliably, because many US card issuers decline gambling transactions coded under merchant category 7995. Some issuers that do approve the charge treat it as a cash advance, with fees and interest from day one. That's why offshore casinos shown to Colorado readers lean on crypto, which avoids the card networks but can't be reversed once sent, as the Federal Trade Commission warns. Colorado's licensed sportsbooks process payments as legal gambling, so card problems mostly affect offshore play. Our page on casino card declines explains the codes, and credit card gambling blocks covers bank-level blocks.
What is the minimum deposit at the casinos shown to Colorado players?
It varies from about $20 to $30 for a bonus, depending on the casino and the source. SlotoCash's own terms set a $20 minimum deposit for each bonus. Third-party reviews report a $30 minimum for Slot Madness's 275% match and a $25 minimum for Decode's 111% offer, which the casino's own site doesn't confirm. Minimum withdrawals are a separate rule: SlotoCash lists $100 for Bitcoin and reviewers report $20 at Slot Madness. Check the cashier before depositing, and see minimum deposits and low deposit casinos for wider comparisons.
How much does clearing a casino bonus cost a Colorado player on average?
On a typical offshore welcome bonus, the expected cost of the wagering can be more than the bonus itself. Using SlotoCash's published 25x wagering on deposit plus bonus, a $50 deposit with a $100 bonus means $3,750 in bets. At a 96.25% RTP slot, the house edge of 3.75% makes the expected cost $140.63, leaving the average player about $40.63 behind the bonus. Higher multiples cost more: 35x on the same deal costs about $196.88. Run your own numbers with our bonus value calculator method and the Colorado casino bonuses page.
