Sweeps Coins meaning: they're the prize currency at a sweepstakes casino, the coin that can be redeemed for a cash prize once you meet the operator's rules. You get them free on sign-up or as a bonus with Gold Coin purchases, and a growing number of states now block them entirely.
Sweeps Coins (SC) are the redeemable prize coin; Gold Coins are for play only.
Operators give SC away with no purchase required, which underpins their sweepstakes claim.
Brands can require SC to be played through before redemption; one Stake.us offer is reported at 3x.
Several states have ended SC play by statute or through regulator pressure.
Redemption value, minimums and ID checks are set by each operator's official rules.

Sweeps Coins meaning and why they exist
Sweeps Coins are the half of a sweepstakes casino's two-currency system that can turn into money. The other half, Gold Coins, has no cash value and exists for entertainment play. Keeping the two apart lets operators argue that buying coins is a purchase of play credits, and that prize coins are a free sweepstakes entry attached to it.
That's why you can't buy Sweeps Coins on their own. They arrive as a bonus with a Gold Coin bundle, or through a route that needs no purchase. Regulators in states such as New York reject the distinction when the games are casino-style and the prizes are cash. You'll find this term next to others in our casino glossary.
Other names for Sweeps Coins by brand
Not every operator uses the words Sweeps Coins. Stake.us calls its prize coin Stake Cash, and Spree calls its version Spree Coins while keeping the SC short form. The play currency is renamed too: WOW Vegas uses WC, Funrize uses TC and Crown Coins uses CC. The idea is the same in each case: one coin to play, one coin to redeem.

Zula's own promotion page breaks its no-purchase pack into steps: 2 SC on registration, 3 for phone verification, 2 for email consent, 2 for SMS consent and 1 for a daily login. Figures change often, so read the current rules in the brand's Chumba review or Pulsz review before relying on them.
How to get and redeem Sweeps Coins
Collect SC through the no-purchase routes in the official sweeps rules, or as a bonus attached to a Gold Coin bundle.
Check that a game is set to use Sweeps Coins, following the operator's rules on keeping prize play apart from Gold Coin play.
Play the SC through as many times as the rules require; a third-party review reports 3x on one Stake.us offer.
Reach the operator's redemption minimum and complete the identity checks the rules describe.
Request the redemption and wait for processing under the brand's stated method and time.
A dollar example shows why expectations matter. Say a $19.99 purchase includes 40 SC. Under a hypothetical 1x play-through, all 40 must be wagered once. On games with a 5% house edge, the average cost of that play is 40 × 5% = 2 SC, so a typical balance afterward is around 38 SC, and actual results swing widely either way. The $19.99 itself is spent the moment you pay. Our page on house edge explains the arithmetic.
Where Sweeps Coins are blocked: states and brand exits
Ten states have recorded laws banning dual-currency sweepstakes casinos, including New York (December 5, 2025), California (January 1, 2026) and Oklahoma (November 1, 2026). Brands also pull SC play under regulator pressure without a statute. VGW ended SC play in West Virginia on November 18, 2025, as Yogonet reported (opens in a new tab).
A cash prize from redeemed SC is income. The IRS's W-2G instructions include a category for sweepstakes, lotteries and pools, but whether you receive a form depends on the operator and the thresholds; your duty to report doesn't. See W-2G and our gambling taxes guide.
Redemption rules are written by the operator, and no state gaming regulator oversees them.
A state ban or brand exit can end SC play quickly, so don't hold large balances.
Coin purchases are real money spent on entertainment, not an investment.
Losses are likely over time because every game carries a house edge.

Frequently asked questions
What are Sweeps Coins?
Sweeps Coins are the prize currency at a sweepstakes casino. You can redeem them for a cash prize once you meet the operator's play-through, minimum and identity rules. They can't be bought directly; they come free with sign-up, daily rewards or mail-in requests, or as a bonus with a Gold Coin purchase. Some brands rename them, such as Stake Cash at Stake.us. Our sweepstakes casino entry explains the full model.
How much is one Sweeps Coin worth?
The value is set by each operator's official sweeps rules, so check the rules for the brand you use rather than assuming a rate. Those rules also set the redemption minimum and any play-through needed before coins count as redeemable. Purchase prices give a rough sense of scale: one third-party listing showed 30 SC bundled with a $10 Gold Coin pack. See our Gold Coins entry for the play side.
Can I buy Sweeps Coins?
Not on their own. Operators sell Gold Coin bundles and add Sweeps Coins as a bonus, which is how they keep the purchase separate from the sweepstakes entry. You can also collect SC without paying through the routes listed in each brand's rules, such as sign-up packs and daily logins. States including New York treat this arrangement as casino gambling anyway. Read are sweepstakes casinos legal for more.
Why can't I redeem my Sweeps Coins?
Usually because they haven't met the operator's rules yet. Common blocks are coins not yet played through, a balance below the redemption minimum, unfinished identity verification, or living in a state where the brand doesn't allow prize play. A state ban or brand exit can also end SC play. Contact the operator's support and read its sweeps rules. Our KYC glossary entry explains the identity checks.
Are Sweeps Coins legal in my state?
It depends on your state and the brand. Ten states have enacted bans on dual-currency sweepstakes casinos, and regulators in others, such as Michigan and Illinois, have sent cease-and-desist letters. Each brand also lists its own excluded states, and those lists change. Check your state page and the brand's current rules before buying. Our sweepstakes casino bans tracker lists dates and laws.
Do Sweeps Coins expire?
They can. Expiry periods, inactivity rules and what happens to balances when a brand leaves a state are all set by the operator's own rules, so read them before you build a balance. When Blazesoft brands left Illinois, for example, redemptions stayed open only until June 7, 2026, according to a third-party report. Keep SC balances small and redeem eligible coins promptly. See sweepstakes vs real money casinos.
What is the minimum Sweeps Coins redemption at Chumba Casino?
Chumba's own terms set a minimum of SC100 for a cash redemption, while third-party site Sweepsy reports a 10 SC minimum for gift vouchers. The same terms say cash redemptions can take up to 10 business days to reach a bank, amounts over $10,000 can take up to 7 extra days, and only one request is allowed every 24 hours. Its own sweeps rules (August 2025 version, possibly out of date) exclude states including Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington. Read the Chumba redemption page for the steps.
How long does a WOW Vegas Sweeps Coins redemption take?
WOW Vegas's help center says processing runs from the same business day for Elite and Platinum members to within three business days for lower tiers, with delivery time added on top. Skrill can take up to 24 business hours, MassPay one to two business days and Trustly three to five, while PrizeOut is usually instant. Sweepsy, a third-party review, reports minimums of a $25 gift card or 100 SC for cash. WOW Vegas lists states where you can register but can't play with Sweeps Coins. See the WOW Vegas redemption page.
Are Sweeps Coins allowed in Texas?
Texas hasn't enacted a sweepstakes casino ban, according to a third-party tracker: SB 517 passed the state Senate and reached the House on May 8, 2025, but didn't advance. That means Texas isn't on the list of states with recorded bans, though each brand still sets its own excluded states and those lists change. No ban doesn't make sweepstakes casinos licensed or regulated by the state either; there's no state regulator overseeing redemptions. Check the brand's current rules, and read our can I play online casinos in Texas answer.
Is Stake Cash the same as Sweeps Coins?
Yes, Stake Cash is Stake.us's name for its Sweeps Coins, the redeemable prize currency, while Gold Coins remain the play-only currency. The main difference is how prizes are paid: Stake.us's own help center says Stake Cash is redeemable in cryptocurrency, and a third-party review reports minimums that vary by coin, usually 40 to 65 SC. Its own restricted-states page excludes a long list, including Arizona, California, Illinois, Michigan and New York. See our Stake.us review for its state list and terms.
Is a gift card redemption faster than cash for Sweeps Coins?
Often yes, and the minimum is usually lower too. High 5 Casino's own rules set 50 SC for a non-cash prize against 100 SC for a cash prize, and its help center says Prizeout gift cards arrive instantly to within a few hours, compared with one to two business days for Skrill and three to five for Trustly. Third-party reviews report similar splits elsewhere, such as 10 SC for gift cards and 75 SC for cash at McLuck. Check each brand's rules first. Our High 5 redemption page has the details.
What happens to a Sweeps Coins balance when a brand leaves my state?
Sweeps Coin play ends there, and whether you can still redeem your balance depends on the operator's rules and the deadline it sets. When Blazesoft brands left Illinois after the Gaming Board's February 2026 letters, a third-party report says redemptions stayed open until June 7, 2026. VGW ended SC play in West Virginia on November 18, 2025. Ten states have recorded bans, most recently Oklahoma on November 1, 2026. Redeem eligible coins promptly when a ban is announced. Our which states ban sweepstakes casinos answer lists the dates.
