Online casino games: table games, video poker and specialty games

Beyond slots, the casinos we cover mostly offer RealTime Gaming's table games, video poker and specialty titles. Each game page sets out the rules, the pay table or odds, the published RTP and house edge where available, worked dollar examples and what strategy can and can't do. RTP figures come from third-party game catalogs, because RTG doesn't publish them on a site we can check, and we say so.

Video poker RTPs assume perfect strategy, and blackjack figures depend on rules and correct play. Your real cost will be higher if you make mistakes.

Some figures vary between sources. GamesHub's RTG game list (opens in a new tab) gives Blackjack + Perfect Pairs a range of 95.9% to 99.59%, depending on whether you play the side bet, and lists Deuces Wild at 97% to 99%. Where sources disagree, our game pages show the range and the source rather than picking one number. Specialty games such as keno and Banana Jones are on the same hub.

Casino game odds: what a session costs in dollars

Expected loss works the same way for every game: total amount wagered × house edge. The house edge doesn't change with your bet size, but the dollar cost grows with every hand or spin.

  1. Decide your bet and roughly how many rounds you'll play. For example, 200 hands at $5 is $1,000 wagered.
  2. Multiply by the house edge. On Jacks or Better at 0.46% with perfect play, that's about $4.60.
  3. Compare with other games. The same $1,000 on European Roulette at 2.7% costs about $27, and on Fish Catch at 9% about $90.
  4. Set your budget from the expected cost, then add room for normal swings, which can be much larger than the average in a short session.

Our house edge explained and casino math basics guides show more examples. If you're starting out, read how to play blackjack and how to play video poker first.

What strategy can and can't do

Correct strategy lowers the house edge in skill-based games. Blackjack basic strategy and video poker strategy tell you the best decision for each hand, and the low edges in the table assume you follow them. No strategy turns the edge in your favor.

  • Card counting is history and theory online. RNG blackjack reshuffles every hand, so there's nothing to count. See can you count cards online.
  • Betting systems such as the Martingale don't change the house edge. Doubling after each loss can need very large bets after a short losing run, and table limits stop the progression. Read is martingale a good strategy.
  • Bonuses and table games rarely mix. Bonus terms at our partners are slot-focused, and table games are often excluded or weighted lower.

For game-specific casino lists, see best blackjack casinos and best video poker casinos. Our partner casinos are offshore and not licensed by any US state, so check your state's law first, and treat every game as paid entertainment.

Video poker RTP: RTG pay tables compared

Video poker publishes its odds in the pay table, which makes it one of the most transparent casino games. These are the RTPs third-party catalogs list for RTG video poker, all assuming perfect strategy. Where a source gives no figure, we leave it blank rather than estimate.

The spread is wide: $1,000 on Sevens Wild costs about 15 times as much on average as the same $1,000 on Jacks or Better. Mistakes push the cost up on every game. Our how to play video poker guide explains the hand rankings, and the video poker pay table entry shows how to read one.

Online blackjack variants at RTG casinos

RTG offers several blackjack variants with different rules and side bets. Published figures exist for some; for others, no RTP is available, and the game page says so.

The Super 21 figure comes from PokerListings' RTG profile (opens in a new tab). The Perfect Pairs range shows what side bets do: the main game sits near the top of the range, and adding the side bet pulls the return toward the bottom. Basic strategy is what gets you close to the published figure. Online RNG blackjack reshuffles every hand, so card counting doesn't apply; see blackjack card counting online.

Specialty casino games: keno, plinko and arcade titles

Specialty games sit between slots and table games. They're quick, simple and often carry higher house edges, so the dollar cost per hour can be steep.

Fish Catch's 91% RTP means $1,000 of play has an expected cost of $90, about three times that of European roulette. Bonuses can be restricted here too: third-party reviews report that Banana Jones and Fish Catch can't be played with Planet 7's coupon funds. Our how to play keno guide covers spot selection and payouts.

Casino table games without published RTP figures

For many RTG table games, no RTP or rules data is published in the sources we use. That includes baccarat, craps, sic bo, casino war, red dog, Pai Gow Poker, Let 'Em Ride, Caribbean Stud Poker, Caribbean Hold'em, Andar Bahar, Lucky 7 and Vegas Three Card Rummy.

We don't fill those gaps with numbers from other developers' versions, because rules and pay tables change the edge. Each game page explains the rules as published and how the game works, and tells you to check the help screen or pay table at your casino. If a casino can't show you the payout for a bet, that's a reason to choose a game that can. Games with published figures, listed in the tables above, let you work out the cost before you play.

European vs American roulette: the house edge in dollars

Roulette is the easiest game to check with arithmetic. A straight-up bet pays 35 to 1, so a winning $1 bet returns $36 including the stake. Cover every pocket once and you get 36 units back for each 37 staked on a single-zero wheel, or each 38 on a double-zero wheel.

Roulette edge from the wheel itself
WheelPocketsAverage return per $1House edgeExpected cost on $500 of bets
European (single zero)3736 ÷ 37 = 97.3%2.7%$13.50
American (double zero)3836 ÷ 38 = 94.7%5.3%About $26.30

The European figure matches the 97.3% RTP third-party data lists for RTG's European Roulette. RTG's catalog in our sources lists that single-zero game; double-zero wheels appear at other casinos, and our American roulette entry covers them. Roulette is forbidden while a bonus is active under Miami Club's bonus terms and excluded under Silver Oak's, so plan to play it with your own money. Our how to play roulette guide covers the bet types.

Why betting systems fail: the Martingale in dollars

The Martingale tells you to double your bet after every loss, so one win recovers everything. The math shows the catch: bets grow fast, and the house edge applies to every one of them.

A Martingale run starting at $5
Loss numberNext betTotal lost so far
1$10$5
3$40$35
5$160$155
7$640$635
9$2,560$2,555

After seven straight losses you need $640 to chase a $5 profit, and a table limit or an empty balance ends the run. Short losing streaks are common over a long session, so the system trades many small wins for an occasional large loss, and the expected cost stays total stake × house edge. Read roulette strategies tested and the Martingale entry.

Frequently asked questions

What casino game has the best odds?

Among RTG games with published figures, Super 21 (99.6%), Jacks or Better (99.54% with perfect strategy) and Suit 'Em Up Blackjack (99.51%) have the lowest house edges, according to third-party game data. Those figures assume correct play, so mistakes raise the cost. Even the best game has a house edge, and losses are likely over time. Read what is the best casino game to win and our house edge guide.

What is the house edge on online blackjack?

It depends on the rules and how well you play. RTG blackjack variants listed by third-party catalogs show RTPs from about 99.5% to 99.6% for games such as Suit 'Em Up Blackjack and Super 21, which means a house edge near 0.5% with basic strategy. Side bets such as Perfect Pairs usually carry a higher edge. See what is the house edge on blackjack and the blackjack game page.

Is European roulette better than American roulette?

Yes, for your expected cost. European roulette has a single zero and 37 pockets, and third-party data puts RTG's version at 97.3% RTP, a 2.7% house edge. American roulette adds a double zero, which raises the edge. On $500 of total bets, 2.7% means an expected loss of $13.50. Read the European roulette page and the American roulette glossary entry for the difference.

Is video poker better than slots?

Usually, in terms of expected cost. Several RTG video poker games, such as Jacks or Better and Loose Deuces, have published RTPs around 99% with perfect strategy, compared with roughly 94% to 97.5% for many RTG slots. The catch is that you need to play each hand correctly to get that return. See is roulette better than slots and our video poker strategy guide.

Can I play live dealer games at RTG casinos?

Usually not. RTG's catalog is mainly RNG games, and third-party reviews report no live dealer section at Silver Oak, Planet 7 and Slot Madness, with conflicting reports for SlotoCash and Decode. Miami Club's own site doesn't mention live dealer games. Some offshore casinos add live tables from other providers, so check the casino's lobby before you sign up. Read do RTG casinos have live dealer and our live dealer guide.

What is the best video poker game to play?

On published figures, Jacks or Better leads RTG's video poker at 99.54% RTP with perfect strategy, followed by Bonus Deuces Wild at 99.15% and Loose Deuces at 99.07%, according to third-party game data. That makes the expected cost on $1,000 wagered about $4.60 to $9.30. Sevens Wild is the lowest listed at 93.15%. You need correct play to reach those returns. Read what is the best video poker game and our Jacks or Better page.

Can you win at online blackjack?

You can win individual hands and sessions, but not beat the game over time. RTG blackjack variants with published figures sit between about 99.5% and 99.6% RTP with basic strategy, a house edge near 0.5%, so $1,000 of bets has an expected cost of about $5. Mistakes and side bets raise that. RNG blackjack reshuffles every hand, so counting doesn't help. Read our blackjack game page and blackjack basic strategy.

What is Tri Card Poker?

Tri Card Poker is RTG's version of three card poker, where you play a three-card hand against the dealer. Third-party data lists its RTP at 95.51%, a house edge of 4.49%, and a max win of 40x. That edge is well above blackjack or video poker, so $500 of bets has an expected cost of about $22. Read what is Tri Card Poker and our Tri Card Poker page.

What are the odds in online keno?

RTG doesn't publish an RTP for its keno in the sources we use, so we can't give a house edge. What third-party data lists is the top prize: 250x per SlotCatalog or $50,000 per GamesHub, which don't agree.
