Non-sticky bonus meaning: a non-sticky bonus keeps your deposit and the bonus in separate balances, and you play with your own cash first. If you win early, you can usually withdraw by forfeiting the bonus; if your cash runs out, the bonus takes over with its wagering rules.
Your deposit is played first; bonus funds only come into play once your cash is gone.
Before the bonus is touched, you can usually withdraw cash winnings by giving up the bonus.
Once the bonus is in play, wagering must be met before anything is withdrawn.
It's also called a parachute or cashable bonus, and it's worth more than a sticky bonus of the same size.
Casino terms decide the order of play and any forfeit rules, so read them before you claim.

Non-sticky bonus meaning: two balances, one order
The defining feature of a non-sticky bonus is the split. Your deposit sits in a cash balance and the bonus sits in a bonus balance. Bets come out of the cash balance first, and the bonus is only used if the cash is gone.
That order creates a choice a sticky bonus never gives you. While you're still on your own money, a good run can be withdrawn like any normal win, with the bonus canceled. If the run goes badly, the bonus acts like a parachute and gives you a second chance, now under the wagering requirement. Both terms appear in our casino glossary.

What you can do in each phase

What happens to the bonus
1. Cash phase
Your deposit and its winnings
Usually yes, by forfeiting the bonus
Removed if you cash out
2. Bonus phase
Bonus funds, after cash hits $0
Not until wagering is met
In play under wagering rules
3. Wagering complete
Whatever balance remains
Yes, subject to caps and limits
Converted to withdrawable cash
Some casinos count wagering from the moment you deposit, including bets made in the cash phase; others only count it once bonus funds are in play. That detail changes how quickly you reach phase three, so look for it in the terms.
Non-sticky bonus scenarios in dollars
Assume a $100 deposit with a $100 non-sticky bonus at 30x (deposit + bonus), so $6,000 in wagering if you go into the bonus phase. Four ways a session can go:
Outcomes on a $100 deposit with a $100 non-sticky bonus
Scenario
What happens
Result vs your $100
Early win in cash phase
Cash grows to $400; you withdraw and forfeit the $100 bonus
+$300, no wagering needed
Cash lost, bonus busts
Cash hits $0; the $100 bonus is also lost during wagering
−$100
Cash lost, bonus survives
Bonus phase ends after $6,000 wagered with $260 left
+$160
Same deal, sticky version
$260 left, but $100 bonus deducted at cashout
+$60
On average, $6,000 of wagering on a 96% RTP slot costs $240, so the bonus phase is a long shot, but the cash phase keeps your normal upside intact. That's why a non-sticky offer is generally worth more than a sticky one of the same size. Our expected value of a bonus guide shows the full math.
Forfeiting a bonus: rules to check first
Walking away in the cash phase is the main advantage, but casinos write their own rules around it. Check each of these before you deposit:
Confirm the terms say real money is wagered before bonus money. If they don't say, ask support in writing.
Find out how to forfeit: some cashiers cancel the bonus automatically when you withdraw, others need you to ask.
Check whether the deposit itself is locked into wagering. Rules written as deposit + bonus can mean your cash is also under playthrough.
Look for max bet rules that apply from the moment the bonus is credited, even in the cash phase.
Read the bonus abuse rules. Claiming and canceling bonuses repeatedly, or using several accounts, can get winnings voided and accounts closed.
Silver Oak's terms, for example, charge an 8% fee (minimum $4) on withdrawals where the deposit hasn't been wagered at least once. Fees like this can apply even when no bonus is involved.
Do partner casinos offer non-sticky bonuses?
The welcome terms the partner casinos publish, and the third-party summaries of them, don't state whether the match bonuses are non-sticky, and most are written as deposit + bonus wagering. Treat any offer as sticky until the casino confirms otherwise in writing.
SlotoCash's general terms add one relevant rule: you can't claim bonuses while a withdrawal is pending. For a wider look at how these casinos structure offers, see our welcome bonus guide and the comparing casino bonuses page.

Frequently asked questions
What is a non-sticky bonus?
It's a casino bonus held separately from your deposit, with your real money played first. If you win while still on your cash, you can usually withdraw by forfeiting the bonus. If your cash runs out, the bonus funds take over and must be wagered before withdrawal. Compare it on our non-sticky bonus page and in how is a bonus paid.
Is a non-sticky bonus better than a sticky bonus?
Yes, for most players a non-sticky bonus is the better deal at the same size. It keeps the normal upside of your own deposit, lets you walk away early by forfeiting the bonus, and makes the bonus withdrawable after wagering. A sticky bonus is deducted at cashout. The house edge still applies to both. See our sticky bonus glossary entry and sticky bonus page.
Can I withdraw before using a non-sticky bonus?
Usually yes, if you are still playing with your own cash and accept losing the bonus. Many casinos cancel the bonus automatically when you request a withdrawal in that phase. Some terms lock the deposit into wagering too, so check first. Expect identity checks before any payout. Read can I cancel a bonus and how to withdraw from an online casino.
Why is it called a parachute bonus?
It's called a parachute bonus because it only opens when you need it. While your own money lasts, the bonus stays out of play; once your cash balance hits zero, the bonus deploys and gives you another chance under its wagering terms. Nothing about it changes the house edge. See bonus wagering requirements and our deposit match explained page.
Can a non-sticky bonus still carry a max cashout cap?
Yes, a non-sticky bonus can still carry a max cashout cap. Being non-sticky decides when the bonus can be withdrawn, not how much. Some offers cap winnings from the bonus phase, which limits a big result. Planet 7's WELCOME200, for instance, is listed by a third-party review with a $1,000 cap. Check the specific code before claiming. See max cashout meaning and max cashout rules.
Is SlotoCash's welcome bonus sticky or non-sticky?
SlotoCash's published welcome terms don't say whether its matches are sticky or non-sticky, so treat them as sticky until support confirms otherwise in writing. What the terms do state is 25x (deposit + bonus) wagering, a $20 minimum per bonus, a $10 max bet and no max cashout, with play limited to slots, Real-Series slots, keno and scratch cards. Its general terms also block new bonuses while a withdrawal is pending. Read the SlotoCash welcome bonus page and our best non-sticky bonus casinos list.
Is Miami Club's deposit bonus non-sticky?
Miami Club's bonus terms don't describe its deposit bonus as non-sticky, and they set 20x (deposit + bonus) for matches of 100% or less, so the deposit is tied into wagering too. One helpful rule: if your balance falls below $1, the terms say the wagering is cleared, so you aren't stuck with an unplayable bonus. Deposit bonuses have no expiry and no stated cashout cap. Its section 1.6 lists the US as prohibited, while the site owner's affiliate program confirms US players are accepted, so confirm at sign-up. See the Miami Club review and bonus expiry guide.
Is a cashable bonus the same as a non-sticky bonus?
Mostly yes: casinos and players use cashable bonus and non-sticky bonus for the same idea, a bonus that can become withdrawable cash once its wagering is met. The opposite, a sticky or non-cashable bonus, stays in your balance until cashout and is then deducted. Some casinos use the words loosely, so read what the terms say happens to the bonus amount at withdrawal rather than trusting the label. See our sticky bonus page and how to read casino terms guide.
Can I play blackjack or roulette with a non-sticky bonus active?
Often not freely, because many bonus rules apply from the moment the bonus is credited, even while you're still on your own cash. Miami Club's terms forbid roulette while a bonus is active and count blackjack at only 5%. Silver Oak's offer page asks 60x on blackjack and video poker against 30x elsewhere. If you mainly play table games, it can be simpler to deposit without a bonus at all. Our table games bonus page and game weighting entry explain the rules.
What does deposit + bonus wagering mean on a non-sticky bonus?
It means the wagering multiple applies to your deposit as well as the bonus, so more of your play is tied up. On a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus at 30x, deposit + bonus means $6,000 of bets, while bonus-only wagering would need $3,000. It can also mean your cash is locked into playthrough, which weakens the main non-sticky advantage of walking away early. Ask support which applies. See our wagering requirements explained guide and the deposit match explained page.
Can I claim a new bonus while a withdrawal is pending?
Not at every casino: SlotoCash's general terms say you aren't eligible for bonuses while a withdrawal is pending. That matters with non-sticky offers, because forfeiting a bonus and cashing out leaves a request in the queue, and a fresh deposit with a code may be refused until it clears. Some players cancel a pending withdrawal to keep playing, which puts the money back at risk. Read our pending period and reverse withdrawal entries before deciding.
Will I pay a fee if I forfeit a bonus and withdraw my deposit?
You might at Silver Oak, whose terms charge an 8% fee, with a $4 minimum, when a deposit hasn't been wagered at least once before withdrawal. Forfeit a bonus and withdraw a $100 deposit you never played, and that's $8 gone before any method fee, which Silver Oak lists at up to $40 or 5%. Playing through the deposit once avoids that particular fee. Other casinos set their own rules, so check the banking terms. See our withdrawal fees page and the Silver Oak review.
Can I get a non-sticky casino bonus legally in West Virginia?
West Virginia is one of the few states with legal online casinos, licensed by the West Virginia Lottery Commission under the Interactive Wagering Act, so any bonus there comes from a state-licensed site under the state's rules. The law allows up to five licenses, the minimum age is reported as 21, and the state has four racetrack casinos and one historic resort casino. Offshore casinos aren't licensed in West Virginia. Read our West Virginia online casino guide and the player protections comparison.
