Wagering requirements explained simply: a wagering requirement (also called playthrough or rollover) is the total amount you must bet before bonus money and its winnings can be withdrawn. A 30x requirement on a $300 deposit-plus-bonus balance means $9,000 in bets, and the house edge applies to every one of them.
Turnover = wagering multiple × the amount it applies to, which may be the bonus alone or deposit plus bonus.
Games count at different rates; slots usually count fully, while table games and video poker are excluded or need a higher multiple.
Max-bet rules, excluded games and pending withdrawals can void progress or winnings.
Terms can conflict even on one casino's own site, so confirm the figure that applies before you opt in.

What wagering requirements are and why casinos use them
When a casino adds bonus money to your account, it doesn't let you withdraw it straight away. First you must bet a set multiple of the bonus, or of the bonus plus your deposit. That multiple is the wagering requirement, and until you've met it your balance is usually locked.
Casinos use wagering requirements because without them a bonus would simply be a cash gift. Requiring repeated bets lets the house edge recover the bonus on average. This guide sits in our online casino guides and is the practical companion to the expected value of a bonus.
You'll see the same idea written as "30x playthrough", "rollover of 30 times", "wager 30x (b+d)" or "30xB". The number is the multiple; the letters tell you what it multiplies. The glossary entry for wagering requirement gives a one-line definition.
How to calculate a wagering requirement
The basis is the detail most players miss, and it changes the answer more than the multiple itself.

Multiply them to get turnover in dollars.
Check the game contribution rates and divide by the rate for the game you'll play (a game counting 50% doubles the turnover).
Check the expiry date and the max bet, then decide whether that much betting fits your budget.
Wagering requirements at our partner casinos
Here's what the published or reported terms say for each partner's welcome offer. Where a casino's own page is the source we say so; third-party figures are reported, not confirmed, and our link's offer may carry different terms.

Wagering requirements in dollars: three worked examples
Silver Oak: 100% match, two possible multiples
Deposit $100, get a $100 bonus. If the requirement applies to deposit plus bonus, that's $200 × 30 = $6,000 under the offer page or $200 × 40 = $8,000 under the general terms. If it applies to the bonus only, it's $3,000 or $4,000. The offer page doesn't say which, and the difference between the lowest and highest reading is more than 2.5 times.
Planet 7: 200% match, 30x (bonus + deposit)
Deposit $100 with the reported WELCOME200 code and get $200. Turnover is $300 × 30 = $9,000. At $1 a spin that's 9,000 spins; at $3 it's 3,000. On a slot with a 4% edge, the expected cost of that play is $360. The reported $1,000 max cashout caps what you can take out at the end.
Royal Ace: 200% match with a 10x-deposit cap
The same $100 deposit and $200 bonus give $9,000 of turnover at 30x on slots. The reported max cashout of 10x the deposit means the most you could withdraw from the bonus play is $1,000. Another reviewer lists a 250% up-to-$2,500 offer with 35 spins instead, so the current terms may differ.

Compare that cost with the $200 bonus and the conclusion is plain: at typical slot RTPs, the required play is expected to cost more than the bonus is worth. That's normal for deposit bonuses, and it's why they're best seen as extra playing time.
Game weighting and which games count
Not every bet counts toward wagering. Casinos either set contribution rates (a $10 bet counting as $10, $5 or nothing) or, as several RTG partners do, set a different multiple for different game groups.
Silver Oak's terms exclude baccarat, craps, crash games, Henferno, pai gow poker, Pontoon 21, roulette, shooting games, sic bo, war, tournaments, live dealer and progressives from bonus play.
SlotoCash's terms exclude progressive jackpots, video poker, table games and specialty games by default, and say play on non-eligible games voids promotion winnings.
A third-party listing reports that Banana Jones and Fish Catch can't be played with Planet 7 coupon funds.
Royal Ace and Silver Oak list higher 60x multiples for blackjack and video poker, which doubles the turnover compared with 30x.
In short, bonuses at these casinos are built for slots. Table games are usually excluded or weighted lower, so check the list before every session. Our guides on game weighting explained and what games count toward wagering go into more detail.
Rules that can void your wagering progress
Meeting the turnover isn't the only condition. Breaking a side rule can cancel winnings even after thousands of dollars of bets.

Silver Oak's terms add a twist even without a bonus: withdrawing a deposit that hasn't been wagered at least once can carry an 8% fee (minimum $4). It's effectively a 1x requirement on every deposit. For more on how casinos police bonus rules, see bonus abuse explained.
How to track and clear a wagering requirement
Before depositing, save a copy of the bonus terms page and note the multiple, basis, max bet, excluded games and expiry.
Ask support to confirm anything that conflicts, and keep the chat transcript.
Work out turnover and divide by your stake to see how many spins it means.
Play only eligible slots at or below the max bet.
Check the bonus or wagering tracker in your account if the casino provides one; if not, keep your own tally.
When turnover is complete, request the withdrawal promptly and keep records of the request.
If you change your mind, many casinos let you cancel an active bonus, usually forfeiting the bonus and its winnings. See can I cancel a bonus before you decide.
What counts as a low wagering requirement?
There's no official scale, but the cost math gives a useful guide. A requirement is low when the turnover times a typical slot edge comes close to the bonus or below it. With a 200% match and a 4% edge, the break-even point is about 17x on a deposit-plus-bonus basis ($200 ÷ ($300 × 4%)) and 25x on a bonus-only basis ($200 ÷ ($200 × 4%)). Anything far above those figures is expected to cost more than the bonus is worth.
Among our partners' published or reported welcome offers, SlotoCash's 25x (deposit + bonus) is the lowest multiple, and the 60x figures for blackjack and video poker at Silver Oak and Royal Ace are the highest. Our low wagering bonus page and low wagering casinos list compare more offers.

Frequently asked questions
What does a 30x wagering requirement mean?
A 30x wagering requirement means you must bet 30 times a set amount before you can withdraw bonus funds and their winnings. If the basis is the bonus only, a $100 bonus needs $3,000 of bets; if it's deposit plus bonus, a $100 deposit and $100 bonus need $6,000. Always check which basis the terms use. Our page on bonus wagering requirements shows more formats.
Does the wagering requirement include my deposit?
It depends on the terms: some casinos apply the multiple to the bonus only, others to the deposit plus the bonus. Several partner casinos use deposit plus bonus, which raises turnover sharply. On a $100 deposit with a $200 bonus at 30x, that's $9,000 rather than $6,000. If the terms don't say, ask support and save the answer. See how to read casino terms for tips.
Which games count toward wagering requirements?
Slots usually count in full, while table games, video poker, live dealer and progressive jackpots are often excluded or need a higher multiple. SlotoCash's terms exclude video poker, table and specialty games by default, and Silver Oak and Royal Ace list 60x for blackjack and video poker. Playing excluded games can void winnings. Read game weighting explained before you play.
How long does it take to clear a wagering requirement?
It takes as long as your turnover divided by your stake, plus however long you play per session. $9,000 of turnover at $1 a spin is 9,000 spins; at $3 it's 3,000. Check the expiry too: SlotoCash's general terms give 90 days, while several partners don't publish one. Never raise stakes above the max bet to finish faster. Our bankroll management guide helps you pace play.
Can I cash out before a 30x wagering requirement is met?
Usually you can't withdraw bonus funds or their winnings until wagering is complete, and requesting a payout early may forfeit the bonus. Some casinos let you cancel the bonus and withdraw the remaining deposit, minus any winnings tied to the bonus. Silver Oak's terms also add an 8% fee on deposits not wagered once. See can I cancel a bonus for how cancellations usually work.
What counts as a good wagering requirement on a 200% match?
A good wagering requirement is one where the expected cost of the required betting is close to or below the bonus. For a 200% match at a 4% slot edge, that means about 17x or lower on a deposit-plus-bonus basis, or 25x on the bonus alone. Among our partners' published or reported welcome offers, SlotoCash's 25x is the lowest multiple. Compare offers on our low wagering bonus page.
Do free spins winnings carry a wagering requirement at Decode?
Yes, free spins usually carry wagering on their winnings, and often a max cashout as well. A third-party listing reports a Decode no-deposit spins code with 40x wagering, a $200 max cashout and a $10 max bet, for example. If 50 spins win $20 at 40x, you'd need $800 of bets before withdrawing. Our page on free spins winnings explains the usual rules.
Why do Silver Oak's wagering terms show two numbers?
Silver Oak's offer page says 30x playthrough, while its general terms list 40x for slots and other eligible games, with 60x for table games and video poker on both. The pages conflict, and the offer page doesn't state whether the multiple applies to the bonus or deposit plus bonus. Ask support which applies before you deposit and keep the reply. Our Silver Oak review covers its other terms.
What is the Planet 7 Casino wagering requirement?
Third-party listings report 30x wagering on slots for Planet 7's welcome bonus, applied to the bonus plus the deposit, with a $1,000 max cashout. On a $100 deposit with the reported 200% WELCOME200 match, that's $300 × 30 = $9,000 of slot bets. Another reviewer describes the requirement only as "one time", which is unclear, and Banana Jones and Fish Catch are reported as off-limits with coupon funds. Planet 7 doesn't publish these terms on a page we could check, so confirm at sign-up. See our Planet 7 bonus codes page.
How much do you have to bet to clear a Royal Ace bonus on blackjack?
Third-party listings put Royal Ace's blackjack and video poker wagering at 60x the bonus plus the deposit, double the 30x reported for slots. A $100 deposit with a $200 bonus would need $300 × 60 = $18,000 of blackjack bets, against $9,000 on slots. The reported max cashout of 10 times the deposit still caps the payout at $1,000. That much turnover rarely suits table players, so many skip the bonus. Our best bonus for blackjack page explains what to look for instead.
What is the max bet while clearing a wagering requirement?
Most casinos cap each bet while a bonus is active, and breaking the cap can void your winnings even after you've completed the turnover. SlotoCash's welcome bonus terms set the limit at $10 per spin, and a third-party listing reports the same $10 cap on a Decode no-deposit spins code. If your normal stake is higher, the bonus will take longer to clear than you might expect. Check the max bet before every session. Our max cashout explainer covers the other cap that often sits alongside it.
Is a 40x wagering requirement too high?
For most deposit bonuses, yes: 40x is expected to cost more than the bonus is worth. Take Silver Oak's general terms, which set 40x on slots. On a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus, a deposit-plus-bonus basis means $200 × 40 = $8,000 of bets; at a 4% slot edge, that's about $320 in expected losses against a $100 bonus. Break-even for that match at 4% would be about 12.5x. A bonus-only basis halves the turnover to $4,000. Our bonus value calculator method shows the full formula.
Does SlotoCash's 25x wagering apply to the deposit too?
Yes, SlotoCash's welcome bonus terms set 25x the deposit plus the bonus, not the bonus alone. With the first deposit's 200% match, a $100 deposit adds $200, so turnover is $300 × 25 = $7,500. At a 4% slot edge that's about $300 in expected losses, against the $200 bonus. The multiple is low next to other partners, there's no max cashout on the welcome series, and the max bet is $10 a spin. Eligible games are slots, keno and scratch cards. See our SlotoCash welcome bonus page.
