Bonus expiry and casino time limits

Bonus expiry is the deadline for using a casino bonus and finishing its wagering; miss it and the bonus, plus anything won with it, is usually removed. Offshore casinos run several clocks at once, from 48-hour claim windows to 90-day playthrough periods and 12-month inactivity rules. Here is how each one works, in days and dollars.

Key takeaways

  • Several clocks can run on one bonus: the claim window, the code's end date, the playthrough period and account inactivity rules.
  • SlotoCash's general terms give 90 days from redemption; third-party reviewers report the same for Decode.
  • Silver Oak's own pages say birthday chips last 7 days and comp points expire after 12 months.
  • Royal Ace, Planet 7 and Slot Madness publish no expiry we could confirm, so ask support in writing.
  • A deadline is never a reason to play more than you planned; letting a bonus lapse costs nothing extra.

What bonus expiry means at an online casino

Bonus expiry is the time limit a casino sets on a promotion. Most often it means the period you have to complete the wagering requirement after the bonus is credited. When that period ends, the casino removes the unused bonus and the winnings tied to it.

Expiry isn't one rule but a family of them. Some deadlines apply before you claim, some while you play, and some long after a bonus is finished, such as points and inactive balances. Each is covered below, with links back to our casino bonuses hub for the bonus types themselves.

Five bonus expiry clocks to know

Points and inactivityComp points and dormant balancesSilver Oak comp points: 12 months; SlotoCash balances: 12 months without loginCasino's pages

A code's end date and a bonus's validity are easy to mix up. A code that stops working tomorrow may still give you 90 days to clear the bonus once redeemed. Our page on expired bonus codes explains what happens when you try one that has lapsed.

SlotoCash's 90-day figure is in its bonus terms (opens in a new tab) as the general validity; the welcome section itself doesn't restate it, so confirm it applies to your code. The 48-hour cashback window is on the SlotoCash promotions page (opens in a new tab). Silver Oak's birthday-chip and comp-point limits appear with its cash back bonuses (opens in a new tab).

What happens when a casino bonus expires

When the playthrough period runs out, the casino typically removes the bonus balance and any winnings that came from bonus play. What happens to your own deposit depends on the bonus structure: with a non-sticky bonus, real money is played first and is usually yours; with a sticky bonus, the bonus is never withdrawable at all.

None of the partner terms we read spells out the exact order of removal, so ask support before you rely on keeping any part of the balance. If a bonus was removed and you think it shouldn't have been, our answer on why a bonus was removed explains the usual reasons.

SlotoCash's terms say disputes must be raised within 14 days, and Silver Oak's within 3 days of the wager. A complaint about an expired bonus has its own deadline.

Common bonus expiry mistakes and how to avoid them

Most lost bonuses aren't lost to bad luck. They run out because a deadline was misread or forgotten. These are the mistakes the partner terms make easiest to fall into.

  • Treating a code's end date as the bonus deadline. A Decode seasonal code reported to end on October 31, 2026 has now passed, but bonuses claimed before that date run on their own validity clock.
  • Assuming the general terms cover your offer. SlotoCash's 90 days sits in its general bonus terms; its welcome section doesn't restate it, so confirm it applies to your code.
  • Missing a claim window. SlotoCash's promotions page gives 48 hours to claim instant cashback, so it can't wait until the end of the week.
  • Leaving a free-play account idle. Miami Club's terms remove the balance of a deposit-free account after 60 days of inactivity.
  • Letting comp points age out. Silver Oak's points expire after 12 months, and third-party reviews say Planet 7 needs 1,000 points and a $0 balance before you can redeem.
  • Raising a dispute too late. Silver Oak's terms allow 3 days from the wager and SlotoCash's 14 days.

A simple fix covers most of these: when you claim anything, put its end date and the dispute deadline in your phone calendar. Our guides to comp points and Planet 7's VIP program cover points rules in more depth, and how to file a casino complaint explains what to do if a deadline was applied wrongly.

Bonus expiry in daily dollars: the pacing math

Dividing total wagering by the days available shows whether a deadline fits how you already play. If it doesn't, the bonus is asking you to gamble more often or with more money than you otherwise would.

Daily wagering needed to finish within the window
ExampleTotal wageringWindowPer daySpins per day at $1
SlotoCash: $100 deposit, 200% match, 25x (d+b)$7,50090 days≈ $83≈ 83
Decode: $25 deposit, $100 bonus, 35x (b+d)$4,37590 days≈ $49≈ 49
Same SlotoCash bonus if you only play weekends$7,50026 weekend days≈ $288≈ 288
Hypothetical $25 chip at 30x with a 7-day life$7507 days≈ $107≈ 107

The expected cost doesn't change with the deadline; $7,500 of slot bets at a 3.75% edge still costs about $281 on average however long it takes. What changes is the pressure. A short window concentrates the same losses into fewer, longer sessions. Our gambling budget guide shows how to set a figure first and fit any bonus around it.

Free spins and free chip expiry

Free spins tend to have the shortest lives of any promotion, but none of our partners publishes a standard spin expiry that we could confirm. Spins credited with a deposit may need to be used within a set time, and their winnings then carry their own wagering clock. Check the spin terms at sign-up; our free spins guide covers the usual structure.

Gift chips are similar. Silver Oak's 7-day birthday chips are the clearest published example among our partners. A birthday bonus with a week to clear is fine if you were going to play anyway, and easy to skip if you weren't.

Comp points, cashback and dormant account expiry

Loyalty rewards expire too. Silver Oak's pages say comp points (100 points = $1) expire after 12 months. SlotoCash's terms and conditions (opens in a new tab) say balances are voided after 12 consecutive months without a login, though management may restore them. Silver Oak treats an account as inactive after 2 years and may delete it after an email notice.

If you stop playing, withdraw what you can and close the account rather than leaving money to age out. Our comp points guide explains how points convert to bonus cash, which then carries wagering of its own.

How to handle bonus expiry dates

  1. Before claiming, find the validity period in the bonus terms; if none is shown, ask live chat and save the reply.
  2. Write down the date the bonus was credited and the date it expires.
  3. Divide the total wagering by the days available and compare it with your normal play.
  4. If the daily figure is more than you'd usually bet, skip the bonus or choose a smaller deposit.
  5. Check whether the code itself has an end date separate from the playthrough window.
  6. Let a bonus lapse rather than chase it; nothing extra is lost when it expires.

Don't let an expiry date set your pace

Countdown timers and expiring offers are designed to make you act quickly. A sensible response is the opposite: slow down, check the terms and play only what fits your budget. If you notice yourself playing to beat a deadline rather than for fun, take a break.

Bonus expiry rules at offshore casinos

Our partners are offshore and not licensed or regulated by any US state, so their expiry rules can change without notice and there is no state regulator to review a disputed removal. Whether playing at one is allowed is a question of your state's law; start with our guide to offshore casino legality.

Partner offers with published expiry terms

We picked the three partners whose bonus validity is published or reported, because a known deadline beats an unknown one. They are offshore and not licensed by any US state, so check your state's law before signing up. Offers are for new players, 21+ (18+ where allowed), and terms apply.

  • SlotoCash Casino: $6,000 Welcome Bonus + 60 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). The casino's terms say 25x (deposit + bonus), $20 minimum per bonus, no max cashout on the welcome series and a general 90-day validity.
  • Decode Casino: $5,000 Welcome Bonus + 50 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). Third-party listings report 90-day validity, 35x (bonus + deposit), a $25 minimum and no max cashout on EASY25CODE; Decode's own site shows no terms.
  • Silver Oak Casino: $2,500 Welcome Bonus + 50 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). The casino's pages give 30x (offer page) or 40x (terms) wagering, no max withdrawal on the welcome match and $30 minimum deposits, but no welcome expiry.

The casinos' own sites may show a different package from our link, and the terms at sign-up apply. Michigan's Gaming Control Board named Silver Oak on April 9, 2025 and SlotoCash in its October 8, 2026 cease-and-desist release (opens in a new tab) as illegal offshore operators. See the SlotoCash review, Decode review and Silver Oak review before deciding. The house edge means losses are likely over time.

Frequently asked questions

How long do casino bonuses last?

It varies by casino and by offer. SlotoCash's general terms give 90 days from redemption, and third-party reviewers report 90 days at Decode, while Silver Oak's birthday chips last 7 days. Several partners publish no limit at all. Ask support for the exact window before claiming, and read our guide on how to clear a casino bonus.

What happens to winnings when a bonus expires mid-wagering?

Usually the bonus and any winnings made with it are removed. Whether your own deposit survives depends on whether the bonus is sticky or non-sticky and on the casino's wording. None of the partner terms we read details the order, so ask in writing. Our answer to can I withdraw a bonus covers the related rules.

Do casino bonus codes have an expiry date?

Yes, many do. A code can have an end date that is separate from the time you get to clear the bonus. One Decode seasonal code listed by LCB expired on October 31, 2026, for example. Codes change frequently, so confirm in the cashier. Our answer to do bonus codes expire has more detail.

Can a casino extend an expired bonus?

Some may do it as a courtesy, but none of our partners publishes a policy for it, so don't count on it. If you think a bonus expired early or was removed by mistake, raise it promptly: SlotoCash's terms allow 14 days for disputes and Silver Oak's allow 3 days from the wager. Our guide to filing a casino complaint explains the steps.

Do free spins have a shorter expiry than other bonuses?

Usually, and often faster than deposit bonuses, though the partners we cover don't publish a standard spin expiry we could confirm. Winnings from spins then carry their own wagering and time limit. Read the spin terms when they are credited, and see our page on free spins winnings for how those winnings are treated.

Can comp points expire like bonuses do?

At some casinos, yes. Silver Oak's pages say comp points expire after 12 months, at 100 points to $1. Other partners don't publish an expiry we could confirm. Redeemed points usually become bonus money with wagering attached, so they have their own clock too. Our comp points glossary entry explains the basics.

Does my balance expire if I stop playing?

It can. SlotoCash's terms say balances are voided after 12 consecutive months without a login, though management may restore them, and Silver Oak treats accounts as inactive after 2 years. If you are done playing, withdraw your balance. Our guide on how to withdraw from an online casino walks through the process.

Is a longer bonus expiry better?

A longer window is friendlier, because it lets you play at your normal pace, but it doesn't reduce the expected cost of the wagering. A 90-day window on $7,500 of bets still costs about $281 on average at a 3.75% house edge. Compare total wagering first, then the window, using our bonus value calculator method.

Does the Miami Club welcome bonus expire?

Not on a timer, according to Miami Club's bonus terms, which say a deposit bonus stays active until its wagering is met. Account rules still apply: deposit-free accounts lose their balance after 60 days of inactivity, and real-money balances are removed after 12 months without a login, though they can be reinstated on request. Its 20x deposit plus bonus rollover makes it one of the easier welcome offers to pace. Miami Club's Terms of Use v2.1, section 1.6, list the United States as prohibited, while its affiliate program confirms US players are accepted, so confirm at sign-up. See the Miami Club welcome bonus and casino dormant accounts.

How long do I have to clear a no deposit bonus?

Often it isn't published, so ask before you start playing the chip. Silver Oak's no deposit page lists SILVER25, SILVER50 and FREESILVER without an expiry, and the third-party listing for Decode's RTG50GRANDE spins doesn't give one either. SlotoCash's general terms give bonuses 90 days, and Miami Club's terms say a deposit-free account loses its balance after 60 days of inactivity. A $100 chip at 30x needs $3,000 of bets, so a short window can mean long sessions. See our casino no deposit bonus guide and the $100 free chip page.

Does a bonus expire if I request a withdrawal?

A withdrawal request before wagering is finished usually ends the bonus, and it can block new ones too. SlotoCash's terms say players with a pending withdrawal aren't eligible for bonuses, so a new code won't apply until the payout clears or is canceled. At Silver Oak, withdrawing a deposit that was never wagered once costs an 8% fee, with a $4 minimum. If you want to keep a bonus running, finish the rollover first; if you'd rather have the money, accept that the bonus goes. Read can I cancel a bonus and our page on pending withdrawals.

Is it legal to play casino bonuses in Georgia?

No Georgia-licensed online casino offers bonuses, because Georgia hasn't legalized online casinos or sports betting. The Georgia Lottery Corporation regulates the lottery only, and the state has no casino or sports betting regulator, so there is no state body to hear a bonus dispute with an online casino. Georgia has no statewide sweepstakes casino ban on record, and its lottery age is 18. The partners on this page are offshore and not licensed by Georgia. Read online casinos in Georgia and can I play online casinos in Georgia before you sign up.

Does SlotoCash cashback expire?

Yes, quickly: SlotoCash's promotions page says instant cashback must be claimed within 48 hours. The standard rate is 25% on deposits made Monday to Wednesday and 35% Thursday to Sunday, and VIP members get 35% and 50%. If you miss the 48-hour window, the cashback is gone, so check after each eligible session rather than at the end of the week. Cashback is credited as bonus money, so read its wagering before you rely on it. Our casino cashback bonus guide and the SlotoCash VIP program page explain the rates.

What time zone do casino bonus deadlines use?

Most partners don't publish one, which is a good reason to ask support before a deadline. The only time zone in the partner terms we read is on Silver Oak's cashback page, which credits cashback on Mondays at 00:01 EST. A player in California is three hours behind that, so a midnight deadline in Eastern time falls at 9 p.m. Pacific. When a bonus expires on a set date, assume the casino's clock applies and finish early. Our guide on how to read casino terms and the Silver Oak customer support page help you get an answer in writing.

Does self-exclusion or a cool-off pause a bonus expiry?

None of our partners publishes what happens to an active bonus during a break, so don't assume the timer stops. SlotoCash offers self-exclusion for at least six months by email, and Silver Oak lists cool-off periods and self-exclusion through live chat, processed immediately. If you need a break, take it anyway: losing a bonus costs nothing extra, while playing to beat a deadline can cost a lot. Ask support how your balance will be handled. Our guides to cool-off periods and self-exclusion explain how to set one up.
