Match bonus meaning, explained simply

When a casino says "200% match up to $1,000", it promises to add two dollars of bonus for every dollar you deposit, until the bonus reaches $1,000. Deposit $100 and you get $200 of bonus, $300 to play with. Deposit $600 and you still get only $1,000, because the cap kicks in.

100%, 200% and 400% match bonus examples

Notice the last column. With wagering on deposit + bonus, the expected cost of clearing the bonus grows in step with the balance, so a bigger match doesn't make the deal better on average. Deposit + bonus vs bonus-only wagering on a match

Two offers can look identical and cost very different amounts to clear. The base the multiplier applies to is the detail to find in the terms.

• 25x bonus only on a $100 deposit with a $200 bonus: 25 × $200 = $5,000 in bets.
• 25x deposit + bonus on the same offer: 25 × $300 = $7,500 in bets.
• At a 4% edge that's an expected cost of $200 versus $300.

Welcome match packages split over several deposits

A large headline number is often the total of several matches. SlotoCash's own site lists five matched deposits (200%, 200%, 100%, 100% and 177%), each with its own code and spins. Silver Oak's new-member page (opens in a new tab) describes a 100% match on each of the first ten deposits, with codes SILVEROAK1 to SILVEROAK10.

To reach the full headline, you'd have to deposit many times and clear each match. Most players use only the first one or two. Judge a package on the first match you'll actually take, not the total.

Match bonus terms compared: what a $100 deposit triggers at seven casinos

Headline percentages hide very different costs. The table applies each casino's published or reported first-deposit match to a $100 deposit, using the same assumed 4% house edge as the examples above. These are the casinos' own site packages, not the offers via our links, and codes change, so treat every row as a snapshot to check at sign-up.

Two patterns stand out. First, the lowest bet requirement belongs to the smallest match: Miami Club's 100% at 20x asks for $4,000 of play, against $11,250 for Slot Madness's 275%. Second, in every calculable row the expected cost of the wagering is larger than the bonus itself at a 4% edge, which is why a match is best seen as extra playing time rather than profit. A lower-edge slot shrinks the cost; at 3%, Miami Club's $4,000 costs about $120.

Caps matter as much as the multiple. Planet 7's reported $1,000 max cashout and Royal Ace's 10x-deposit limit ($1,000 on a $100 deposit) cut off any large win, while SlotoCash and Slot Madness report none. How to read a match bonus offer before you deposit

1. Find the match percentage and the dollar cap.
2. Check whether wagering applies to the bonus alone or deposit + bonus.
3. Look for a max cashout, a max bet while playing and the expiry period.
4. Check which games count and how much each counts; see game weighting.
5. Confirm whether the bonus is sticky or non-sticky.

Its offer page says 30x (60x on blackjack and video poker) and no max withdrawal; its terms say 40x on slots, a conflict to check before you deposit.
