Casino comp points explained

Casino comp points are loyalty points you earn on every real-money bet and later swap for bonus credit. At SlotoCash, Silver Oak and Planet 7, 100 points convert to $1. Earn rates are small, though: at SlotoCash's published VIP rates, they return 0.13% to 0.25% of what you wager. Here's what comps are really worth and how redemption works.

Key takeaways

  • 100 comp points = $1 at SlotoCash and Silver Oak (casinos' own pages) and Planet 7 (third-party review).
  • SlotoCash's VIP rates of 1 point per $7.50, $5 or $4 wagered return 0.13% to 0.25% of your play.
  • On a 96% RTP slot, comps give back only about 3% to 6% of your expected loss.
  • Planet 7 is reported to require 1,000 points and a $0 balance to redeem, with 30x wagering on the credit.
  • Comps are a small rebate on play you'd do anyway, never a reason to play more.

What casino comp points are

Comp points (short for complimentary points) are a loyalty currency. You earn them automatically as you place real-money bets, and you can convert them into bonus credit once you have enough. They're part of a casino's VIP or loyalty program, and they sit alongside casino bonuses such as cashback and reloads.

Two numbers decide their value: the earn rate (how much you must wager per point) and the conversion rate (how many points make $1). A third, the wagering attached to redeemed credit, decides how much of that dollar you can actually withdraw. For a short definition, see comp points in our glossary.

Planet 7100 points = $1Higher tiers earn more; rate not given1,000 minimum, $0 balance, 30x or 60x on creditThird-party review

SlotoCash publishes the most detail: its VIP club page (opens in a new tab) gives an earn rate per tier, and its promotions page (opens in a new tab) confirms 100 points = $1. Silver Oak lists the same conversion and a 12-month expiry on its cash back page (opens in a new tab). Planet 7's rules come from Blockonomi's Planet 7 review (opens in a new tab), not the casino's own site.

Other partners give less: a reviewer says Decode runs weekly missions that can award comp points, and reviewers confirm loyalty programs at Royal Ace and Slot Madness without listing rates.

What comp points are worth per $1,000 wagered

Convert SlotoCash's rates into dollars. At 1 point per $7.50, $1,000 of bets earns 133 points, worth $1.33. At 1 per $5, it's 200 points ($2). At 1 per $4, it's 250 points ($2.50). That's a return of 0.13%, 0.2% and 0.25% of the amount wagered.

Now compare it with the cost of the play. On a slot with 96% RTP, the house edge is 4%, so $1,000 of spins costs $40 on average.

$1,000 wagered on a 96% RTP slot at SlotoCash's VIP rates
TierPoints earnedComp valueExpected lossComps as share of loss
Gold (1 per $7.50)133$1.33$40About 3.3%
Platinum (1 per $5)200$2.00$405%
Diamond (1 per $4)250$2.50$406.25%

Comps soften losses slightly; they don't change the direction. Even at the best published rate, about 94% of the expected loss remains.

How much play it takes to earn 1,000 comp points

Planet 7 is reported to require 1,000 points before you can redeem, which is $10 of credit. At SlotoCash's rates, here's what earning 1,000 points would take and cost on a 96% RTP slot.

  • 1 point per $7.50: $7,500 wagered, expected loss $300, for $10 of comps.
  • 1 point per $5: $5,000 wagered, expected loss $200, for $10 of comps.
  • 1 point per $4: $4,000 wagered, expected loss $160, for $10 of comps.

Planet 7's own earn rate isn't published in the sources we rely on, so these are illustrations using SlotoCash's figures. The point is the ratio: you'd spend far more than the comps return. Our comp points guide covers more examples.

Miami Club comp points and its points-based VIP tiers

Miami Club takes a different approach from the other partners. Instead of tiers by invitation or deposit, its VIP page ranks players by points earned, and says reward points can be redeemed for bonus credits. It doesn't publish an earn rate, a conversion rate or a list of perks per tier.

Miami Club VIP tiers (casino's VIP page)
TierPoints needed
FlamingoAutomatic after a $20 purchase
Downtown25,000
Bay Front100,000
South Beach250,000
Ocean Drive500,000
Millionaire's Row1,000,000

Without an earn rate, you can't price these tiers. As an illustration only, if Miami Club paid SlotoCash's Platinum rate of one point per $5, reaching Downtown would take $125,000 of bets, an expected loss of $5,000 on a 96% RTP slot. Its real rate may be higher or lower, so ask support before you treat any tier as a goal. Miami Club runs WGS (Wager Gaming) games rather than RTG. Its Terms of Use (v2.1, section 1.6) list the United States as a prohibited jurisdiction, while the site owner's affiliate program confirms US players are accepted, so confirm at sign-up. More in our Miami Club review and our guide to how VIP programs work.

How to redeem casino comp points

  1. Check your points balance in the casino's account or cashier area, or ask live chat.
  2. Confirm the minimum redemption and any balance rule. Planet 7 is reported to need 1,000 points and a $0 balance.
  3. Ask what wagering applies to the credit, and which games count.
  4. Redeem the points; they become bonus credit in your balance.
  5. Play the credit on eligible games and stay under any max bet.
  6. Once the wagering is done, any remaining balance can be withdrawn under the usual limits.

Wagering on comps matters. Planet 7's redeemed comps are reported to carry 30x on slots, keno, scratch cards and bingo, and 60x on video poker and table games. $10 of credit at 30x needs $300 of play, with a $12 expected cost at a 4% edge, so the credit is often used up before the wagering ends. At 60x, it needs $600.

Do casino comp points expire?

Often, yes. Silver Oak says comp points expire after 12 months. SlotoCash's terms void balances after 12 consecutive months without a login, though management may restore them. Planet 7's expiry isn't stated in the review we rely on.

Expiry rarely costs much, since the amounts are small, but don't keep playing just to stop points from lapsing. If you've stopped playing, a small comp balance is fine to let go. See casino dormant accounts for how inactivity rules work.

Comp points vs cashback: which returns more?

Cashback usually returns more than comps. SlotoCash's VIP page lists monthly cashback on net losses of 5% (Gold), 10% (Platinum) and 15% (Diamond). Silver Oak's VIP page lists monthly cashback of 4% to 35% by tier.

$1,000 wagered on a 96% slot, $40 net loss, at SlotoCash
TierComp valueMonthly cashback on $40 lossTotal back
Gold$1.33$2.00$3.33
Platinum$2.00$4.00$6.00
Diamond$2.50$6.00$8.50

Check whether cashback carries wagering before counting it as cash. SlotoCash's VIP tiers are by invitation, with no published thresholds. Read more on our cashback bonus and VIP bonus pages.

Comp points myths and mistakes

  • "Comps make slots profitable." They don't. A 0.25% rebate can't offset a 4% edge.
  • "Play more to reach the next tier." Tier perks are worth less than the extra expected loss of chasing them.
  • "Comp credit costs nothing." It comes from play you've already paid for, and it usually carries wagering.
  • "Table games earn the same." Earn rates and redemption wagering often differ by game; Planet 7's reported 60x on table games is double its slot rate.

Our casino myths guide covers more misunderstandings.

Comp points checklist: what to ask before you play

Most comp programs publish one or two of the numbers you need and leave the rest to support. These questions fill the gaps in a single chat.

  1. What is the earn rate for my account, in dollars wagered per point, and does it differ by game?
  2. How many points make $1, and what is the minimum redemption?
  3. Do bonus-funded bets earn points, or only cash bets?
  4. What wagering applies to credit redeemed from points, and does it need a $0 balance?
  5. Do points expire, and does inactivity void them?
  6. Do points count toward VIP tiers, and are the tier thresholds published?

With those answers, use the same sum as above: points per $1,000 wagered, times the dollar value, compared with $1,000 × the house edge. If the program won't answer, treat comps as a small, uncertain extra rather than a reason to choose a casino. Our comparing casino bonuses guide and the best loyalty casinos list put comps alongside other perks.

Comp points at offshore casinos and US law

Comps are only as secure as the casino holding them. Real-money online casinos are licensed only in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island, and none of these states licenses our partners. Points held at an offshore casino have no state regulator behind them, and the casino sets and can change the terms.

Michigan's Gaming Control Board named Silver Oak and Planet 7 in its April 9, 2025 cease-and-desist release (opens in a new tab), and SlotoCash on October 8, 2026, calling such operators illegal offshore sites. Read offshore casinos legality and your state's page before you play.

  • Silver Oak Casino: $2,500 Welcome Bonus + 50 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). Its own offer page shows 30x playthrough (60x blackjack and video poker) while its terms say 40x on slots; it states no max withdrawal, and deposits start at $30.
  • Planet 7 Casino: $2,750 Welcome Bonus + 45 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). For the WELCOME200 code, LCB lists 30x deposit plus bonus on slots, a $1,000 max cashout and a $30 card minimum.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cash value of casino comp points?

At SlotoCash, Silver Oak and Planet 7, 100 comp points are worth $1 in bonus credit. What matters more is how much you wager to earn them. At SlotoCash's published VIP rates, $1,000 of bets earns $1.33 to $2.50, a return of 0.13% to 0.25%. Redeemed credit may also carry wagering before it can be withdrawn. Our what is a comp point page has the short answer.

How do I earn comp points at an online casino?

You earn them automatically by placing real-money bets. Each casino sets a rate, such as one point for every $7.50, $5 or $4 wagered at SlotoCash depending on VIP tier. Bonus play may not earn points, and some games earn at lower rates. Check the loyalty terms or ask support. Our SlotoCash VIP program page shows that casino's tiers.

Can I cash out comp points directly?

Usually not. Comp points convert into bonus credit, which normally has to be wagered before it becomes withdrawable. Planet 7's redeemed comps are reported to carry 30x on slots and 60x on table games and video poker. A $10 redemption at 30x needs $300 of play first. Check the casino's terms, and see can I withdraw a bonus.

What is the minimum to redeem comp points?

It varies by casino. Planet 7 is reported to require 1,000 points, worth $10, and a $0 balance at the time of redemption. SlotoCash and Silver Oak don't publish a minimum on the pages we rely on, so ask live chat. Redeeming with no other balance keeps the comp wagering separate from your own money. Our Planet 7 VIP program page has more.

Do casino comp points have an expiry date?

At many casinos, yes. Silver Oak says comp points expire after 12 months, and SlotoCash's terms void balances after 12 consecutive months without a login, though management can restore them. Planet 7's expiry isn't stated by the reviewer we rely on. Small balances aren't worth extra play to keep. See Silver Oak's VIP program for its loyalty details.

Are comp points better than cashback?

Cashback usually returns more. On $1,000 of slot play with a $40 net loss, SlotoCash's Gold comps are worth $1.33 while its Gold monthly cashback of 5% on net losses is $2. At Diamond, comps give $2.50 and 15% cashback gives $6. Check whether cashback has wagering before counting it. Our cashback bonus page explains how it's calculated.

Can I earn comp points on table games?

Often, but rules differ by casino and game. SlotoCash publishes an earn rate per dollar wagered without splitting it by game in the pages we rely on. At Planet 7, credit redeemed from comps is reported to carry 60x on table games and video poker, double the slot rate. Ask support for the game-by-game rules. See casino loyalty programs for typical structures.

Should I play more to earn comp points?

No. Comps return a fraction of a percent of what you wager, while the house edge takes several percent. On a 96% RTP slot, earning $10 of comps at SlotoCash's Gold rate means $7,500 of play and an expected loss of $300. Treat comps as a small rebate on play you'd do anyway, and use deposit limits to stay on budget.

How many points do I need for Miami Club's top VIP tier?

Miami Club's VIP page puts its top tier, Millionaire's Row, at 1,000,000 points. Membership starts at Flamingo after a $20 purchase, and the ladder then runs through Downtown (25,000 points), Bay Front (100,000), South Beach (250,000) and Ocean Drive (500,000). The casino doesn't publish how many points each dollar wagered earns or what each tier adds, only that points can be redeemed for bonus credit. Ask support before you aim for a tier. Its Terms of Use (section 1.6) list the US as prohibited, while the affiliate program confirms US players are accepted. See the Miami Club VIP program.

Do I earn comp points while playing with a bonus?

It depends on the casino, and none of our partners states the rule on the pages reviewed. SlotoCash publishes earn rates per dollar wagered for its VIP tiers but doesn't say whether bonus-funded bets count. Silver Oak publishes its 100-points-to-$1 conversion and a 12-month expiry, but no earn rate at all. Because a welcome bonus can require thousands of dollars in bets, the answer can change your comp total noticeably, so ask live chat before you claim. Our guide to how to clear a casino bonus covers the other rules that apply during playthrough.

Are SlotoCash comp points worth collecting?

They're worth collecting on play you'd do anyway, but not worth chasing. SlotoCash converts 100 points to $1 and, per its VIP page, earns one point per $7.50 wagered at Gold, per $5 at Platinum and per $4 at Diamond. That returns $1.33 to $2.50 on every $1,000 bet. Its monthly cashback of 5% to 15% on net losses is usually worth more. VIP entry is by management invitation, and the base rate for other players isn't published. Read our SlotoCash review for the full loyalty picture.

What happens to my comp points if an offshore casino closes or leaves my state?

You would most likely lose them, because no US state regulator protects balances held at offshore casinos. Comp points are bonus currency the casino controls, and its terms let it change or void them. Michigan's Gaming Control Board has sent cease-and-desist letters to five of our partners, ordering them to stop serving Michigan players. Redeem small balances while you're still playing and don't leave money idle. Our answer on what happens if a casino closes explains the wider risk.

Are comp points taxable as gambling winnings?

The sources reviewed don't say how comp credit is treated for tax purposes, so keep records and check with a tax professional. What is clear is that gambling winnings are taxable federal income, including winnings you go on to make with redeemed comp credit. For payments made in 2026, IRS instructions set the Form W-2G threshold for slot winnings at $2,000. From tax year 2026, the loss deduction is reported to be capped at 90% of losses; check IRS guidance. Our guide to keeping gambling records shows what to log.

How do comp points at New Jersey's licensed online casinos differ from offshore comps?

The main difference is oversight: New Jersey's licensed sites operate under the state Division of Gaming Enforcement, while offshore casinos answer to no US regulator. The division's September 2026 list shows 9 internet gaming permits held by 7 entities, tied to Atlantic City casino licensees. We don't have those sites' loyalty rates, so compare their terms directly. Offshore comps, such as SlotoCash's 100 points to $1, can be changed or voided by the casino with no state body to appeal to. Read our New Jersey online casinos guide.
