California online casino bonuses all come from offshore casinos, because the state licenses no online casino and banned sweepstakes sites from January 2026. A bonus is a conditional loan of play money: at SlotoCash's published 25x deposit-plus-bonus rollover, a $100 deposit with a $200 match means $7,500 of slot bets before you can withdraw.
Every real-money bonus a Californian sees is from an offshore casino with no state license.
Wagering is usually counted on deposit plus bonus, which multiplies the amount you must bet.
On a slot with a 3.75% house edge, $7,500 of wagering costs about $281 on average, more than a $200 bonus.
Max bet rules, excluded games and expiry dates void more bonuses than bad luck does.

Where California online casino bonuses come from
No California regulator approves casino bonuses, because no online casino holds a California license. The Gambling Control Commission and the DOJ Bureau of Gambling Control oversee tribal casinos and cardrooms, not websites. That leaves offshore casinos, which write their own bonus terms and change them without notice. Our California gambling laws page explains why.
The other source of "free" play has closed too. AB 831 (opens in a new tab) banned dual-currency sweepstakes casinos from January 1, 2026, so the daily Gold Coin and Sweeps Coin giveaways that once filled this gap are no longer a lawful option, as covered on our California sweepstakes casinos page. The California hub sets out the rest of the state's picture.

How wagering requirements work on California casino bonuses
A wagering requirement is the total amount you must bet before bonus money, and anything won with it, can be withdrawn. The key detail is what the multiple applies to. "25x deposit plus bonus" means you multiply the whole starting balance, not only the bonus.
Bonus-only wagering: $200 bonus × 25 = $5,000 to bet.
Same multiple, 50% more betting, simply because of the wording.
Every bet counts once toward the total, win or lose, so $7,500 doesn't mean $7,500 of your money; the same dollars cycle round many times. The longer you play, though, the more the house edge eats into the balance. Our guide to wagering requirements explained works through more cases.
A worked dollar example: SlotoCash's first-deposit bonus
SlotoCash's bonus terms (opens in a new tab) set 25x deposit plus bonus for the welcome series, a $20 minimum deposit per bonus and a $10 maximum bet while a bonus is active, and its homepage says there is no max cashout. The first deposit carries a 200% match. Sweet 16, one of the slots its welcome spins are tied to, is listed by a third-party source with a 96.25% RTP, which is a 3.75% house edge.

On these numbers neither offer is worth more than its cost on average; the bonus mostly buys extra playing time. The lower 15x reload leaves far more of the balance intact than the bigger match. Real results swing widely around these averages, and some players finish wagering well ahead, but a bonus never removes the house edge. Try the method yourself with our bonus value calculator method.
SlotoCash's promotions page gives the reload's 15x without saying whether it applies to deposit plus bonus; the table assumes it does. These figures also assume every bet is on a slot with a 3.75% house edge. Slots with a lower RTP cost more, and games that don't count toward wagering cost time without reducing the requirement.
Which games count toward bonus wagering
Casino bonuses are built for slots. SlotoCash's welcome terms allow slots, Real-Series video slots (excluding progressive jackpot slots), keno and scratch cards, and say that playing other games voids promotion winnings. Its general bonus terms exclude progressive jackpots, video poker, table games and specialty games by default.
That means a blackjack or roulette player gets little from a typical welcome match. Elsewhere, table games are often excluded or carry a much higher multiple, such as 60x for blackjack and video poker on some partners' offers. Check the game weighting rules before you play a single hand with bonus funds.
Decode bonus codes reported for US players
Decode's site (opens in a new tab) advertises a "$111 Free Chip + Crypto Bonus," but its terms couldn't be read. Third-party reviewers list several coded offers, and codes change often, so confirm any code at the casino before you deposit.
Using the same 3.75% edge, DECODE111 on a $100 deposit gives $111 of bonus and requires ($211 × 25) = $5,275 of wagering, an average cost of about $197.81. Reviewers also report member complaints about no-deposit codes not being honored and winnings voided over a disputed max bet at Decode, so read the Decode bonus codes page before claiming.
Reloads, cashback and VIP rewards
After the welcome series, the value shifts to recurring promotions. SlotoCash's promotions page (opens in a new tab) lists instant cashback of 25% on Monday-to-Wednesday deposits and 35% from Thursday to Sunday, claimable within 48 hours, plus rotating coded reloads with rollovers from 15x to 30x. Its VIP Club (opens in a new tab) is by invitation and adds daily matches of 110% to 150%, 5% to 15% monthly cashback on net losses and expedited withdrawals at the top two tiers.
Cashback with low wagering is usually the most honest value in casino promotions, because it returns part of what you've already lost. It's still a loss rebate, not income. Our guides to cashback bonuses and casino loyalty programs compare formats.
Max bet, max cashout and expiry rules
Three rules cause most voided bonuses. A max bet rule caps each spin while a bonus is active ($10 at SlotoCash). A max cashout limits how much bonus winnings you can withdraw; SlotoCash says its welcome series has none, but its general terms cap free-bonus cashouts at $200. An expiry date ends the bonus if wagering isn't finished; SlotoCash's welcome terms don't state one, and its general terms give 90 days.
SlotoCash's general terms also say you can't claim bonuses while a withdrawal is pending, and that claiming free bonuses back to back may void bonuses and winnings. Read bonus terms red flags for the full list of traps.
How to claim a casino bonus from California
Read the bonus terms page in full before depositing: wagering basis, eligible games, max bet, max cashout and expiry.
Check whether a code is needed and whether it must be entered before or after the deposit (SlotoCash says before, or immediately after and before any wager).
Make the minimum deposit or more, using a method the bonus allows.
Confirm the bonus appears in your balance before placing any bet.
Play eligible slots only, at or below the max bet.
Track wagering progress and stop if you reach your budget, even if wagering isn't finished.
Complete identity checks before requesting a withdrawal.
Our guide on how to claim a casino bonus sets out these steps in more detail, with examples for match, spin and cashback offers.

SlotoCash: $6,000 Welcome Bonus + 60 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). Its own terms say 25x deposit plus bonus, a $20 minimum deposit per bonus, a $10 max bet and no max cashout. Decode: $5,000 Welcome Bonus + 50 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). Decode's own terms couldn't be read; third-party reviews report 25x to 35x deposit plus bonus and a $25 minimum deposit on its coded offers, so confirm the terms at sign-up.
Both offers are slot-focused; table games are often excluded or weighted lower. Compare the two side by side in SlotoCash vs Decode, or read the SlotoCash welcome bonus breakdown.

Frequently asked questions
Are online casino bonuses legal in California?
No California law licenses online casinos, so no casino bonus is offered under state approval. The bonuses Californians see come from offshore casinos that set their own terms, and sweepstakes promotions were banned from January 1, 2026 by AB 831. If you consider an offshore bonus, check the law first and read our California gambling laws page.
What is a good wagering requirement for California players?
For California players choosing among offshore offers, lower is better, and the basis matters as much as the number. A 15x rollover, like SlotoCash's SLOTOJACKPOT reload, requires far less betting than a 25x or 35x welcome offer. Bonus-only wagering is gentler than deposit-plus-bonus at the same multiple, and slots-only offers suit slot players best. See what a wagering requirement is for worked examples.
How much do I have to bet to clear a $200 bonus?
It depends on the terms. At SlotoCash's 25x deposit plus bonus, a $100 deposit with a $200 match requires $7,500 of eligible bets. At a 3.75% house edge that wagering costs about $281 on average, which is more than the bonus. Use our guide to the expected value of a bonus to check any offer.
Can I use a casino bonus on blackjack in California?
Usually not, at the offshore casinos open to Californians. SlotoCash's welcome terms allow slots, Real-Series video slots, keno and scratch cards only, and say other games void promotion winnings. Where table games are allowed, they often carry much higher wagering, such as 60x. If blackjack is your game, compare the best bonus for blackjack guide or skip the bonus.
Do casino bonus codes work in California?
Codes are issued by offshore casinos and change often, so a code that worked last month may not work now. SlotoCash publishes its codes on its own site; Decode's codes are listed by third-party reviewers, and some members report codes not being honored. Always confirm a code with support before depositing. See do bonus codes expire.
What happens if I break the max bet rule?
The casino can void the bonus and any winnings from it. SlotoCash sets a $10 maximum bet per spin while a bonus is active, and reviewers report a Decode member's account being locked after a big win over a disputed max bet. Set your bet size well below the limit. Our page on why bonuses get removed lists other causes.
Is a bigger welcome bonus always better for California players?
No, not for Californians or anyone else. A bigger match usually comes with more wagering, so it costs more on average to clear. In our example, SlotoCash's 200% welcome at 25x had an average cost $81 above its bonus value, while a 50% reload at 15x was $34 short. Playing without a bonus is also a valid choice; see bonus vs no bonus.
Are winnings from casino bonuses taxable?
Yes. Gambling winnings, including those made with bonus funds, are taxable federal income once you receive them. The 2026 W-2G threshold for slot winnings is $2,000, and offshore casinos may not issue forms, so keep your own records. Our gambling taxes guide explains federal reporting and the reported 90% loss-deduction cap from 2026.
Do California tribal casinos or cardrooms offer online casino bonuses?
No. California’s roughly 60 tribal casinos and 91 cardrooms, overseen by the Gambling Control Commission and the DOJ Bureau of Gambling Control, operate in person, and no California license covers online casino games. Sports betting isn’t legal in the state either, and the Attorney General’s July 3, 2025 opinion says daily fantasy sports count as illegal sports wagering. So any real-money online casino bonus a Californian sees is from an offshore site. Our card rooms guide and Native American casinos guide explain the land-based options.
Can I still get sweepstakes casino bonuses in California after AB 831?
Not lawfully. AB 831 banned dual-currency sweepstakes casinos in California from January 1, 2026, so the free Gold Coin packages and daily Sweeps Coin rewards those sites used as bonuses are no longer a legal option for Californians. The effective date comes from third-party reporting, since the official bill page couldn’t be fetched. Sites still advertising sweepstakes play to California should be treated with suspicion. Our California sweepstakes casinos page covers the ban, and the sweepstakes casino bans tracker lists other states.
How does SlotoCash cashback work for California players?
SlotoCash’s promotions page lists instant cashback of 25% on deposits made Monday to Wednesday and 35% on deposits made Thursday to Sunday, claimable within 48 hours. On a $100 Tuesday deposit that would be $25, and on a Saturday deposit $35, subject to the terms shown when you claim. Invitation-only VIP members also get 5% to 15% monthly cashback on net losses. Cashback is a partial refund of money already spent, not profit. Read the SlotoCash VIP program page and our cashback casinos list.
What is the minimum deposit for a casino bonus in California?
At the two casinos on this page it starts at $20 to $25. SlotoCash’s own bonus terms set a $20 minimum deposit for each bonus in its welcome series. Third-party reviewers list a $25 minimum on Decode’s coded offers, such as DECODE111 and EASY25CODE, while its RTG50GRANDE spins need no deposit at all. Depositing less than the minimum usually means no bonus, so check the cashier first. Our minimum deposits page explains method minimums, and the $20 deposit casinos list compares options.
How long do I have to clear a SlotoCash bonus from California?
SlotoCash’s welcome terms don’t state an expiry, but its general bonus terms give 90 days, so treat that as the outer limit unless the offer says otherwise. Cashback must be claimed within 48 hours of the qualifying deposit. At 25x deposit plus bonus, a $100 deposit with a $200 match needs $7,500 of slot play inside that window. Ask support to confirm the deadline for your specific bonus and keep the reply. See bonus expiry and the SlotoCash bonus codes page.
