What is a wagering requirement? It's the total amount you must bet before a casino lets you withdraw bonus money or winnings made with it. A 30x requirement on a $100 bonus means $3,000 of bets. The multiple, what it applies to and which games count decide how much play, and how much expected loss, a bonus really costs.
A wagering requirement, also called rollover or playthrough, is a multiple of the bonus, or of deposit plus bonus.
On a $100 deposit with a $200 bonus, 30x deposit plus bonus means $9,000 of bets, not $6,000.
Wagering costs money on average: $7,500 of slot play at a 3.75% house edge averages $281.25 in losses.
Slots usually count in full; table games and video poker are often excluded or carry higher multiples.
Breaking a max bet or game rule while wagering can void the bonus and its winnings.

What is a wagering requirement? The one-line answer
A wagering requirement is the amount of betting a casino demands before bonus money turns into money you can withdraw. It's written as a multiple, such as 25x or 30x, and applied either to the bonus alone or to your deposit plus the bonus. Until you complete it, the bonus and anything you win with it stay locked.
Wagering isn't the amount you must lose. Every bet counts toward the total whether it wins or loses, and winnings go back into play. But because every casino game has a house edge, each dollar wagered costs a little on average, so a larger requirement means a larger average cost.
The two words that matter most are what the multiple applies to. 'Bonus' means only the bonus amount; 'deposit + bonus' (sometimes written b+d or d+b) means both together. Here is the same $100 deposit with a 200% match, which gives a $200 bonus, under four common rules:

A 25x deposit-plus-bonus rule asks for more play than a 30x bonus-only rule, even though the number looks smaller. Always convert the multiple into dollars before comparing offers. SlotoCash's own terms use 25x deposit plus bonus on its welcome series; third-party reviews list 30x bonus plus deposit on slots at Royal Ace and Slot Madness, and 60x at Royal Ace for blackjack and video poker.
Which games count toward a wagering requirement
Casinos control wagering with game rules. Some games count in full, some count partly, some carry a higher multiple and some are banned while a bonus is active.
SlotoCash (casino's terms): the welcome bonus allows slots, Real-Series video slots (excluding progressive jackpot slots), keno and scratch cards. Play on other games voids promotion winnings. By default, its general terms exclude progressive jackpots, video poker, table games and specialty games.
Royal Ace (third-party): 30x for slots and parlor games, 60x for blackjack, video poker and classic blackjack.
Slot Madness (third-party): 30x on slots for MAD275; one review describes it as slots and keno only.
Silver Oak (casino's terms): a long excluded list including baccarat, craps, roulette, pai gow poker, sic bo, live dealer and progressives.
The reason is cost. Low-edge games would make bonuses cheap to clear, so casinos either exclude them or raise the multiple. Read what games count toward wagering and our game weighting explained guide before you pick a game.
What a wagering requirement costs in dollars
Average cost = total wagered × house edge. Using the $7,500 example from the formula table, and third-party RTP figures for two RTG slots:

You start with $300 in play: your $100 and the $200 bonus. On Sweet 16, the wagering is expected to eat all but about $19 of it; on Bubble Bubble, the average cost is larger than the whole balance. Real results scatter widely around these averages, and some players finish well ahead, but the bonus doesn't shift the odds in your favor. It mostly buys more playing time.

Judge the dollar total and the cap together, not the multiple alone. A 30x bonus-only rule on a $100 bonus is $3,000 of play; a 30x deposit-plus-bonus rule on the same bonus with a $100 deposit is $6,000. A low multiple paired with a tight max cashout can be worth less than a higher multiple with no cap. Read what is max cashout and check whether the bonus is sticky, which removes the bonus amount at cashout.
Wagering requirement myths
'Betting big clears it faster, so it's smarter.' It clears the total in fewer spins but with bigger swings, and it can break a max-bet rule that voids winnings.
'Some slots are due to pay and finish wagering quicker.' Slot results are random each spin; no game is due.
'Wagering is what you'll lose.' It's what you bet. Your average loss is the house edge on that total.
'A bonus improves my odds.' It adds money to play with, but the house edge on every spin stays the same.
Wagering requirements and US player protection
In New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island, state-licensed online casinos answer to a state regulator. Offshore casinos, including the partners on this page, aren't licensed by any US state. They write and interpret their own bonus terms, and if a dispute over wagering arises there's no state regulator to hear it. Our page on player protections offshore vs licensed explains the difference, and how to read casino terms shows where wagering rules hide.

Frequently asked questions
What does a 30x wagering requirement mean in dollars?
It means you must bet 30 times a set amount before withdrawing bonus funds. If the rule is 30x the bonus, a $100 bonus needs $3,000 of bets. If it's 30x deposit plus bonus, a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus needs $6,000. Every bet counts toward the total, win or lose. Our wagering requirements explained guide walks through more examples.
Do wagering requirements apply to my deposit?
Often, yes. Many offers apply the multiple to deposit plus bonus, which roughly doubles or triples the dollar total compared with a bonus-only rule. SlotoCash's own terms use 25x deposit plus bonus, and third-party reviews list Royal Ace and Slot Madness at 30x bonus plus deposit on slots. Read the basis carefully. Our bonus wagering requirements page compares the two.
What counts as a good wagering requirement at offshore casinos?
Lower is better, but only once you convert it to dollars and check the cap. Around 25x to 30x is common among the offshore offers covered here, while 40x or more is steep. A bonus with no max cashout and 30x can beat a 20x bonus with a tight cap. See our low wagering bonus guide for how to compare offers fairly.
Do table games count toward a wagering requirement at SlotoCash, Silver Oak or Royal Ace?
Often not, or at a much higher multiple. SlotoCash's default terms exclude table games, video poker and specialty games, Silver Oak's terms exclude many table games outright, and Royal Ace is reported at 60x for blackjack and video poker against 30x on slots. Playing an excluded game can void winnings. See what games count toward wagering for detail.
What happens if I withdraw before meeting wagering?
Usually the bonus and any winnings made with it are removed, and you're paid only what's left of your own deposit, if anything. Some terms also block new bonuses while a withdrawal is pending, as SlotoCash's do. Check the rules before you request a cashout mid-bonus. Our why was my bonus removed answer covers the common triggers.
How long do I have to meet a wagering requirement?
It depends on the casino's expiry rule. SlotoCash's general bonus terms give 90 days from redemption, and one third-party listing gives Decode's bonuses 90 days too. Silver Oak's offer page doesn't state an expiry. When time runs out, the bonus and linked winnings are usually removed. Our bonus expiry page explains how time limits work across offers.
Can you beat a wagering requirement?
No strategy removes the house edge, so wagering costs money on average whatever you play. On $7,500 of slot play at a 3.75% edge, the average loss is $281.25. Some players finish ahead through normal variance, but that's luck, not a method. Treat a bonus as extra play time, and set a budget first. Our house edge explained guide shows the arithmetic.
Is a wagering requirement the same as playthrough or rollover?
Yes. Wagering requirement, playthrough and rollover all mean the total amount you must bet before bonus funds become withdrawable. Casinos and review sites use the terms interchangeably, and you'll also see shorthand like '30x b+d', meaning 30 times bonus plus deposit. Our wagering requirement glossary entry lists the common abbreviations.
What is the wagering requirement at SlotoCash?
SlotoCash's own terms set a 25x wagering requirement on deposit plus bonus for its welcome series, and 30x by default on other bonuses. On a $100 deposit with a $200 match, 25x means $7,500 of bets on eligible games: slots, Real-Series slots (excluding progressives), keno and scratch cards. Rotating reload codes carry their own multiples, such as 27x or 15x, and its '25EASYWIN100' new-player offer doesn't state a rollover, so ask support before claiming it. Codes change, and the terms at sign-up apply. See our SlotoCash bonus codes page and the SlotoCash review.
What is the wagering requirement at Miami Club Casino?
Miami Club's terms set 20x deposit plus bonus for bonuses at or below a 100% match, 30x for bigger matches and 40x on no-deposit bonuses. Its published welcome package is a 100% match up to $100 on each of eight deposits, so a $100 deposit plus a $100 bonus needs $4,000 of bets. Video poker counts at 10%, blackjack at 5%, and roulette is barred while a bonus is active. Section 1.6 of its terms lists the US as prohibited, while its affiliate program accepts US players, so confirm at sign-up. Our Miami Club welcome bonus page has the details.
Does a no deposit bonus have a wagering requirement?
Yes, no deposit bonuses almost always carry wagering, and usually a tighter cashout limit too. Miami Club's terms set 40x on no-deposit bonuses, so a $20 free chip needs $800 of bets, and they cap the payout at 5x the bonus in one place and $150 in another, a conflict worth checking. SlotoCash's general terms limit cashouts from free bonuses to between $25 and $200. Some casinos also require a real deposit before you can withdraw free-bonus winnings; Miami Club asks for $25. Read what is a no deposit bonus and our no deposit bonus guide.
Does video poker count toward a wagering requirement?
Usually only partly, and sometimes not at all. Miami Club's terms weight video poker at 10%, so a $100 hand counts as just $10 toward wagering. On a $4,000 requirement, that would take $40,000 of video poker play to clear. Royal Ace is reported at 60x for video poker against 30x on slots, and SlotoCash's default terms exclude video poker from bonus play entirely. Check the game rules before you sit down with bonus funds. Our video poker bonus page and game weighting entry explain how the weightings work.
What is Silver Oak Casino's wagering requirement?
Silver Oak publishes two different figures, so check before you claim. Its offer page gives 30x playthrough and 60x for blackjack and video poker, while its terms list 40x on slots, keno, bingo and scratch cards and 60x on table games and video poker. On a $100 deposit with a $100 match, that gap is the difference between $6,000 and $8,000 of slot play if the multiple applies to both. Its offer page says there's no max withdrawal on the welcome bonus. Ask support which figure applies. See our Silver Oak welcome bonus and Silver Oak review.
How many spins does it take to clear a wagering requirement?
Divide the total wagering by your spin size: $7,500 of wagering takes 7,500 spins at $1, or 30,000 spins at $0.25. That's a lot of play, and every spin carries the house edge. Raising your stake cuts the number of spins, but it can break a max bet rule; SlotoCash's welcome terms cap bets at $10 per spin while a bonus is active, and Miami Club's at $10 per wager. At $10 a spin, $7,500 still means 750 spins. Our bonus value calculator method and bankroll management guide help you judge whether that's worth it.
