Online craps is a dice game where you bet on the outcome of two dice, and it has both some of the cheapest bets in the casino and some of the most expensive. The Pass Line carries a house edge of about 1.41%, while one-roll bets like Any 7 cost about 16.67%. Every figure on this page comes from counting the 36 ways two dice can land.
Two dice make 36 equally likely combinations; every craps payout can be checked against them.
Pass Line costs about 1.41% and Don't Pass about 1.36%, the lowest edges on the main table.
Free odds bets carry no house edge, but the casino sets the maximum you can take.
Proposition bets in the middle of the layout cost 9% to 17% under common payouts.
RTG lists Craps among its table games, but no source publishes its payouts or RTP, so check the help screen.

What is online craps?
Craps is played with two dice. In a land casino a player rolls them across a long table while others bet on the result. Online, a random number generator produces each roll, and you play alone against the house at whatever pace you choose.
GamblingNews' RealTime Gaming overview (opens in a new tab) lists Craps among RTG's table games, and third-party listings of games at the Planet 7, Royal Ace and Slot Madness group include it too. None of the sources we checked gives RTG's payouts, odds limits or RTP, so this page uses the common Las Vegas-style payouts and shows the math so you can check any table.
The layout looks intimidating, but you only need one or two bets to play well. If you'd like a slower walkthrough, start with our how to play craps guide, then come back for the numbers. Other dice and table titles are on the online casino games hub.
How to play online craps: the come-out and the point
A round of craps has two phases. The bets you're most likely to make, Pass Line and Don't Pass, follow this sequence.
Place a Pass Line bet (betting with the roll) or a Don't Pass bet (betting against it).
The first roll is the come-out roll. A 7 or 11 wins for Pass Line, and a 2, 3 or 12 loses. For Don't Pass, 2 or 3 wins, 7 or 11 loses, and 12 is usually a push (barred).
Any other total (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) becomes the point.
The dice keep rolling. If the point comes up before a 7, Pass Line wins 1:1. If a 7 comes first, Pass Line loses and Don't Pass wins.
Once a point is set, you can add a free odds bet behind your Pass or Don't Pass bet, up to the table's limit.
When the round ends, a new come-out roll starts the next one.
Come and Don't Come bets work exactly like Pass and Don't Pass but start on any roll after the point is set. The craps pass line and come bet glossary entries define each one in brief.
Craps odds start here: the 36 dice combinations
Each die has six faces, so two dice give 6 × 6 = 36 equally likely results. Seven is the most common total because six combinations make it. Every craps bet can be priced from this table.

Once a point is set, only two totals matter: the point and 7. A point of 6 has five ways against 7's six, so it wins 5 times in 11. A point of 4 has three ways against six, so it wins 3 times in 9. That's the whole secret of craps math.
Why the Pass Line edge is 1.41%: the arithmetic
You can work out the Pass Line edge with a pencil. On the come-out, 7 or 11 wins immediately: 8 ways out of 36. Then each point adds its chance of being set times its chance of repeating before a 7.
Point 4 or 10: (3/36) × (3/9) each.
Point 5 or 9: (4/36) × (4/10) each.
Point 6 or 8: (5/36) × (5/11) each.
Add the natural wins (8/36) and all six point wins, and the total is 244/495, or about 49.29%.
Since the bet pays even money, you win about 49.29% and lose about 50.71%. The difference, 7/495, is the house edge: about 1.41%. On a $10 Pass Line bet, that's an average cost of about 14 cents per decided bet.
Don't Pass is the mirror image, except that 12 on the come-out pushes instead of winning. That single change sets its edge at 3/220, about 1.36%. Our casino math basics guide shows the same method for other games.

Notice that Big 6 and Place 6 win on exactly the same rolls, but Place 6 pays 7:6 instead of 1:1, cutting the edge from 9.09% to 1.52%. If a Field bet pays 3:1 on 12, its edge drops to about 2.78%. Small payout differences matter a lot, which is why the help screen is worth reading.
The free odds bet: the only bet with no house edge
Once a point is set, you can back your Pass Line bet with an odds bet that pays true odds: 2:1 on 4 or 10, 3:2 on 5 or 9 and 6:5 on 6 or 8. Because the payout exactly matches the chance of winning, the house edge on the odds bet is zero. The odds bet glossary entry explains the term.
The catch is that you can only take odds alongside a Pass or Come bet, which still carries its 1.41% edge, and the casino sets the maximum odds multiple. Here's how a $10 Pass Line bet with $20 in odds plays out when the point is 6.

Craps strategy: systems, streaks and dice myths
Popular craps systems mix bets so that most rolls pay something, such as combining the Field with Place bets on 5, 6 and 8. That makes small wins frequent, but it just averages the edges of the bets involved, and one 7 wipes out the lot. No combination of negative-edge bets adds up to a positive one.
Dice control, a claimed skill at land tables, has no meaning online, where an RNG produces each roll. Hot and cold streaks are a story told after the fact; the next roll doesn't remember the last. And the Martingale doubling approach fails here as it does everywhere: you risk large sums to win one base bet, until a losing run meets the table limit. Read is Martingale a good strategy for the numbers.
Online craps and casino bonus terms
Craps is commonly excluded from bonus play because its best bets have low edges. Silver Oak's terms and conditions (opens in a new tab) list Craps among games excluded from its welcome bonus. Third-party review site Blockonomi reports that baccarat, roulette and craps don't count toward Planet 7's $25 free chip.
For Royal Ace, third-party site LCB lists 30x (bonus + deposit) for slots and parlor games and 60x for blackjack and video poker, without saying how craps is treated. Third-party reviews describe Slot Madness's welcome bonus as valid on slots and keno. Before you play craps with bonus money, read our table games bonus guide and game weighting explained, and ask support in writing.
Is online craps legal in the USA?
It depends on your state. State-licensed online casinos, including craps, are available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Maine legalized tribal online casinos in January 2026, but none had launched by October 2026 and a lawsuit is pending.
Winnings are taxable federal income, and the 2025 tax law reportedly limits the gambling loss deduction to 90% of losses from tax year 2026; check IRS guidance. Our gambling taxes guide has the details.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best bet in online craps?
The Pass Line or Don't Pass bet backed with free odds is the best combination in craps. Pass Line carries a house edge of about 1.41%, Don't Pass about 1.36%, and the odds bet has no edge at all. Place 6 and 8 at 7:6 are close behind at about 1.52%. Avoid center bets like Any 7, which cost about 16.67%. Confirm RTG's payouts in the help screen. Our how to play craps guide explains each bet.
Is online craps rigged?
No source we checked shows RTG craps is rigged, but no US regulator tests it either. Third-party site LCB says RTG games are tested by Technical Systems Testing. At offshore casinos you can't take a complaint to a state regulator, so keep screenshots and game history if you dispute a roll. A fair RNG produces results that match the 36-combination dice table over time. See are RTG games fair for what's published.
Can you win at online craps?
You can win sessions, but no strategy beats the house edge over time. Every bet except free odds has a built-in edge, from about 1.36% on Don't Pass to about 16.67% on Any 7. Systems that mix bets only average those edges. Treat craps as paid entertainment and set a limit before you start. Our can you win real money online answer covers the bigger picture.
What does the free odds bet pay in craps?
It pays true odds: 2:1 on a point of 4 or 10, 3:2 on 5 or 9, and 6:5 on 6 or 8. Because those payouts exactly match the chance of winning, the odds bet has no house edge. You can only make it after a point is set and alongside a Pass or Come bet, and the casino sets the maximum. Check whether RTG's table offers it. The odds bet glossary entry defines the term.
Is Don't Pass better than Pass Line?
Don't Pass is slightly cheaper, at about 1.36% versus 1.41% for Pass Line, because the barred 12 is the only roll that keeps it from favoring the player. The difference is small: on $1,000 of bets it's about 50 cents. Many players simply prefer betting with the roll. Both are among the cheapest bets in the casino. Our craps pass line glossary entry explains the come-out rules.
Can I use a casino bonus to play craps?
Usually not. Silver Oak's terms list Craps among games excluded from its welcome bonus, and third-party reviews report craps doesn't count toward Planet 7's free chip. Using bonus money on an excluded game can void winnings. Where table games count, multiples tend to be higher. Read what games count toward wagering and our table games bonus guide before you play.
How much money do I need for online craps?
Enough for the table minimum, but plan by total action rather than by bet. One hundred $10 Pass Line bets is $1,000 of action with an expected cost of about $14.10, but short-term swings can be much larger, especially with odds bets. Decide your session limit first and stop when you reach it. The bankroll management guide shows a simple way to size a session.
Is online craps legal in my state?
It depends on where you live. Real-money online casinos, including craps, are state-licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Elsewhere, online craps is offered by offshore casinos no US state licenses, and you should check your state's law before playing. The states hub links to every state's rules, and offshore casinos legality explains the federal side.
Can I play online craps on my phone?
Yes, RTG craps runs in a mobile browser at the casinos on this page, without an app. Third-party reviews report instant play in Android and iOS browsers at Planet 7, browser play in Chrome and Safari at Slot Madness, and AskGamblers lists Royal Ace with instant play and mobile access. The layout is crowded on a small screen, so zoom in before you place chips and check you've hit Pass Line rather than the Field or a center bet. Because online rolls come fast, set a time limit first. See our mobile casino guide and the Slot Madness mobile page.
What are the odds of rolling a 7 in craps?
The chance of rolling a 7 on any single roll is 6 in 36, or about 16.67%, which is one roll in six. Seven is the most common total because six dice combinations make it: 1-6, 2-5, 3-4 and their reverses. That's why the Any 7 bet, paying 4:1 against true odds of 5 to 1, carries a 16.67% house edge. It's also why every point is less likely than a 7 to come first, and why Pass Line bets lose slightly more often than they win. Our how to play craps guide and casino math basics show the full arithmetic.
What is a hard 8 in craps?
A hard 8 is rolling 8 as a pair, 4 and 4, before either a 7 or an easy 8 such as 5-3 or 6-2. Only one of the 11 relevant combinations wins, so the bet hits about one time in 11. At the common 9:1 payout, that gives a house edge of about 9.09%, the same as Hard 6. Hard 4 and Hard 10 pay 7:1 and cost about 11.11%. On $100 of hard 8 bets, expect to lose about $9 on average, against about $1.52 on Place 6 and 8. Read our craps pass line glossary entry and house edge explained for cheaper alternatives.
How much does an hour of online craps cost?
It depends on how much you bet and where, since expected loss equals total action times the house edge. At an example 200 decided Pass Line bets an hour at $10, that's $2,000 of action and about $28.20 of expected loss at the 1.41% edge. Spread the same $2,000 across Field bets at 5.56%, and the cost rises to about $111.20. Free odds add swing but no extra expected cost. Online craps can run far faster than a land table, so the pace you set matters as much as the bet. See our gambling budget guide and reality checks guide.
How long do craps withdrawals take at Slot Madness?
Third-party reports suggest one to three weeks or more. AskGamblers reports a pending period of 7 to 10 days at Slot Madness, then 10 to 14 days for e-wallets and bank transfers, with no weekend cashouts, while LCB players report 7 to 10 business days, with one case of 20. Reviewers list a $20 minimum, no withdrawal fees, a $2,500 weekly cap and a $5,000 monthly cap. Methods include bank wire, check, Bitcoin and Litecoin. Pass verification before you request. Read the Slot Madness withdrawals page and what is a weekly withdrawal limit.
Can I play craps online legally in Connecticut?
Yes, Connecticut is one of the seven states that license real-money online casinos, so state-licensed online craps is available there. Online casino gaming was authorized by Public Act 21-23, signed in May 2021, and the Department of Consumer Protection's Gaming Division regulates it. The RTG casinos on this page aren't part of that licensed market; they're offshore and carry none of Connecticut's player protections. A Connecticut player choosing between the two should weigh that difference. The Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling helpline is 888-789-7777. See our Connecticut online casino guide and offshore vs state-licensed casinos.
