Casino video poker bonus

A casino video poker bonus is bonus credit you're allowed to wager on video poker, and at offshore casinos it usually comes with a much higher rollover than slots, often 60x. Because video poker returns more than most slots, the game you pick and its pay table matter more than the bonus size. Here is the math in dollars and the terms to check.

Key takeaways

  • Video poker is often excluded from bonuses or counted at 60x, against 30x–40x for slots.
  • Reported RTPs for RTG video poker run from 93.15% (Sevens Wild) to 99.54% (Jacks or Better), a huge spread in clearing cost.
  • Bonus terms such as non-cashable bonus amounts and max cashouts can matter more than the rollover.
  • Partner casinos are offshore and not licensed by any US state; check your state's law first.

Casino video poker bonus: the short answer

Most offshore casinos either keep video poker out of their bonuses or let it count at a steep multiple. Where it is allowed, 60x is the figure that keeps appearing, roughly double the slot requirement. A dedicated video poker bonus with slot-level rollover is rare.

That doesn't make every video poker bonus poor value, because the game's return is so high. It does mean the details decide everything: which variant you play, its pay table, the wagering base, and whether the bonus itself can ever be withdrawn. The bonuses hub has the wider picture, and how to play video poker covers the rules of the game.

Why video poker gets its own bonus rules

Video poker is a skill-influenced game. The hands you hold change your return, and a well-played Jacks or Better game is reported at 99.54% RTP, so the casino keeps about 46 cents per $100 wagered. A typical slot keeps several dollars. Clearing a bonus on video poker is therefore much cheaper for the player, and casinos respond by raising the bar.

SlotoCash's general bonus terms exclude video poker by default, even though its site lists Double Double Bonus Poker among its games. Silver Oak's terms (opens in a new tab) take the other approach: video poker is an allowed game but sits in the 60x bracket alongside table games, while slots are at 40x.

Video poker RTPs and the cost of clearing a bonus

The table uses RTPs for RealTime Gaming video poker reported by third-party catalogs. The last column is the average cost of $10,000 in wagering, which is what a 60x requirement on about $167 produces.

Reported RTG video poker RTPs and expected cost per $10,000 wagered
GameReported RTPHouse edgeExpected cost of $10,000 wagered
Jacks or Better99.54%0.46%$46
Bonus Deuces Wild99.15%0.85%$85
Loose Deuces99.07%0.93%$93
Double Double Jackpot Poker98.98%1.02%$102
Aces and Eights98.65%1.35%$135
All American Poker98.65%1.35%$135
Deuces Wild97%–99%1%–3%$100–$300
Sevens Wild93.15%6.85%$685

The spread is the story. The same $10,000 of bonus wagering costs about $46 on Jacks or Better and about $685 on Sevens Wild, which is worse than a typical slot. RTPs for Bonus Poker, Double Bonus Poker, Double Double Bonus Poker and Joker Poker aren't published in the third-party catalogs that list RTG games, so we don't estimate them. Game pages for Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Sevens Wild carry the details.

These RTPs assume optimal holds on every hand. Each strategy mistake raises the edge, so real costs are usually higher than the table.

Check the pay table before wagering bonus money

Video poker variants with the same name can pay differently. The return depends on the video poker pay table, especially what full house and flush pay. A full pay table returns the most; a reduced one can cost a full percentage point or more.

The reported RTPs above apply to the versions the catalogs reviewed. Before playing with bonus funds, open the game's pay table, compare it with the version described on our game page, and pick a different game if it looks lower. Our video poker strategy guide explains how to read these tables.

Worked example: a $100 deposit at 60x

Say you deposit $100 and get a 100% match, as on each of Silver Oak's ten welcome deposits, giving $100 in bonus. Silver Oak's offer page doesn't spell out the base, so here are both readings:

  • 60x bonus only: $100 × 60 = $6,000 in bets. On Jacks or Better at a reported 0.46% edge, the expected cost is $27.60.
  • 60x deposit plus bonus: $200 × 60 = $12,000 in bets, an expected cost of $55.20 on the same game.
  • Same wagering on Sevens Wild: $6,000 or $12,000 at 6.85% means an expected cost of $411 or $822, far more than the bonus.

Time matters too. At $1.25 a hand (five coins of 25 cents), $12,000 is 9,600 hands. Then comes a clause that changes the result: Silver Oak's terms say the deposit bonus amount is non-cashable and is removed from the withdrawal, and the request must exceed the deposit plus the bonus. So if you finish with $350, the $100 bonus comes off and $250 is paid. Our sticky bonus page explains this rule.

Video poker with or without a bonus: a $500 example

Here's how a $500 deposit plays out at Silver Oak, using its published 100% match per deposit and 60x for video poker, against the same $500 played as cash. Expected costs use the reported 0.46% edge for Jacks or Better with perfect strategy.

$500 on Jacks or Better at Silver Oak: three paths
PathWagering requiredExpected cost at 0.46%What happens at withdrawal
Cash only, deposit wagered once$500$2.30No bonus to remove; no 8% fee
$500 bonus, 60x bonus only$30,000$138$500 bonus removed from the payout
$500 bonus, 60x deposit plus bonus$60,000$276$500 bonus removed from the payout

The bonus paths cost far more in expected terms, and because the bonus is non-cashable, it never reaches your bank. What it buys is a cushion: a $1,000 starting balance can take more losing hands before it's gone. At $1.25 a hand, $30,000 of wagering is 24,000 hands, a lot of play for most budgets. Run the same comparison on your own numbers with the expected value of a bonus method, and read our non-sticky bonus page for the kind of offer that does let you cash out the deposit side first.

Common video poker bonus mistakes to avoid

Most video poker bonuses go wrong on the terms, not the cards. These are the slips that cost the most, based on the rules published or reported for the partners.

  • Playing a low-return variant. Sevens Wild, reported at 93.15%, costs about 15 times as much to clear as Jacks or Better.
  • Assuming every game counts. SlotoCash's welcome terms say play on games outside the allowed list voids promotion winnings.
  • Forgetting the non-cashable rule. At Silver Oak the bonus comes off the withdrawal, so a $350 balance on a $100 bonus pays $250.
  • Using a reduced pay table. A lower full house or flush payout can add a point or more to the edge. Check paytable basics before you play.
  • Withdrawing before verification. Silver Oak blocks withdrawals until ID, card and address documents are approved, so send them early. See how to verify your casino account.
  • Chasing a royal flush. A royal is rare, and a short session usually returns less than the long-run RTP.

How to clear a video poker bonus within the rules

  1. Confirm video poker is an allowed game for your exact bonus and note its multiple.
  2. Find out the wagering base and whether the bonus is cashable or removed at withdrawal.
  3. Choose a variant with a high published RTP and check its pay table in the game.
  4. Set a bet per hand that stays under any max bet in the terms.
  5. Use a strategy chart for that variant on every hand; skip optional double-or-nothing features if they don't count toward wagering under your terms.
  6. Stop at your budget, and finish verification before requesting a withdrawal.

For the order of play in general, see how to clear a casino bonus.

Video poker strategy and its limits

Correct strategy lets you reach the RTP a game is built around; it doesn't push you past it. RNG video poker deals each hand independently, so there are no patterns or "due" royal flushes to track.

The top payout, usually a royal flush, accounts for part of the published RTP, and it is rare. Over a few thousand hands most players won't see one, so short-term results usually run below the long-run figure. That's another reason to treat a bonus as extra playing time, not as a way to make money. Our house edge explained guide covers the long-run math.

Video poker bonuses and US law

Online video poker for real money is licensed by the state only in the seven online casino states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Elsewhere, offshore casinos fill the gap without US licenses. See states with legal online casinos.

The partners here are offshore and not licensed or regulated by any US state, which means no state regulator to complain to and no state protection of balances. Michigan's Gaming Control Board named Silver Oak and Planet 7 as illegal offshore operators in its April 9, 2025 release (opens in a new tab). Check your state's law on our states hub.

Frequently asked questions

Do casino bonuses count on video poker?

Sometimes, but usually at a higher rollover than slots, and some casinos exclude video poker entirely. Silver Oak's terms allow video poker at 60x, while SlotoCash's general bonus terms exclude it by default. Confirm the rule for your exact bonus before playing a hand. Our what games count toward wagering answer explains the usual categories.

Why is video poker wagering 60x instead of 30x?

Casinos set 60x because video poker returns more to the player than most slots. A Jacks or Better game reported at 99.54% RTP has a 0.46% edge, against about 4% for a 96% slot. Doubling the rollover narrows the gap in what the bonus costs the casino. See house edge explained for the comparison.

Which video poker game is best for clearing a bonus?

The game with the highest RTP that your bonus allows, played with correct strategy. Among RTG titles with reported figures, Jacks or Better leads at 99.54%, followed by Bonus Deuces Wild at 99.15% and Loose Deuces at 99.07%. Sevens Wild, reported at 93.15%, is a poor choice. Our best video poker game answer compares them.

How much does it cost to clear a video poker bonus?

Multiply total wagering by the game's house edge. A $100 bonus at 60x bonus only means $6,000 in bets; at a 0.46% edge the expected cost is $27.60, while at 6.85% it is $411. Results swing widely in the short run. The bonus value calculator method walks through the same calculation.

Do video poker bonus winnings have a max cashout?

Some do. Review sites report a max cashout of 10x the deposit on Royal Ace's welcome bonus and $100 on Planet 7's free chip, while Silver Oak's offer page says no max withdrawal. Silver Oak's terms still remove the bonus amount from withdrawals. Our max cashout rules page explains how caps are applied.

Does the double-or-nothing feature count toward wagering?

It depends on the casino, and the partners' published terms don't address it directly. Jacks or Better on RTG includes a double-or-nothing gamble, which adds swings without lowering the house edge. If the rule isn't published, ask support in writing or skip the feature during bonus play. Our how to read casino terms guide helps you find such clauses.

Is video poker better than slots for a bonus?

It can be cheaper per dollar wagered, but rollover is often double and the terms are stricter. Jacks or Better at 60x can still cost less on average than a 96% slot at 30x, though it takes more hands and stricter terms often apply. Compare both with our slots bonus page before choosing.

Are offshore video poker bonuses legal in the US?

Offshore casinos aren't licensed by any US state, so their bonuses come without state protection, and your state's law decides whether you may play. Seven states license real-money online casinos. Michigan's regulator has named Silver Oak and Planet 7 in cease-and-desist letters. Read our offshore casinos legality guide before signing up.

Is there a no deposit bonus I can use on video poker?

Yes, a few no deposit chips allow video poker, but at 60x and with a small cap. Silver Oak's codes SILVER25, SILVER50 and FREESILVER carry 30x on slots and 60x on blackjack and video poker, with a $100 max cashout, per its own pages. Reviewers report the same 60x and $100 limit on Planet 7's $25 free chip. A $25 chip at 60x needs $1,500 of play, about $6.90 of expected cost on Jacks or Better. Compare chips on our no deposit bonus and $50 free chip pages.

Does Jacks or Better count toward bonus wagering?

At Silver Oak it does, at 60x, because video poker is an allowed game in its terms and isn't on the excluded list. At SlotoCash it doesn't by default, since the general bonus terms exclude video poker. Reviewers report Royal Ace counting video poker at 60x deposit plus bonus. Jacks or Better is the cheapest reported RTG variant to clear with, at 99.54% RTP, so it's worth confirming its status first. Our Jacks or Better game page covers the rules and the double-or-nothing feature.

Do comp points earned on video poker carry wagering?

Often yes, and at the higher video poker rate. Third-party reviews report that Planet 7 converts 100 comp points to $1, needs at least 1,000 points with a $0 balance to redeem, and puts 60x on redeemed comps used on video poker or table games, against 30x on slots. Silver Oak's own pages give the same 100-points-per-$1 rate and say points expire after 12 months. Our comp points page and the comp points guide explain how these rewards convert.

Can I play video poker with a bonus on my phone?

Yes, the partners here run in a mobile browser rather than through an app. Silver Oak's site describes browser play on iPhone, Android and tablets, plus a Windows download client, and reviewers report Planet 7 in instant play on Android and iOS. Whether every video poker variant appears in the mobile lobby isn't published, so check the game list on your device. Bonus rules don't change on mobile: the same multiples and caps apply. See playing on iPhone and mobile casino bonuses.

Is it better to play video poker without a bonus?

Often, yes, especially at casinos where the bonus can't be withdrawn. Silver Oak's terms make the deposit bonus non-cashable and remove it at withdrawal, so a bonus mainly adds playing time while 60x keeps you at the tables. Cash play has no rollover, though Silver Oak charges an 8% fee (minimum $4) if a deposit isn't wagered once before withdrawal. The same casino offers 30% to 50% cashback on deposits over $1,000 made without a bonus, at 30x. Read bonus vs no bonus before deciding.

How long does a Silver Oak withdrawal take after clearing a video poker bonus?

Silver Oak's banking terms allow 7 to 10 business days for review and another 7 to 10 business days for payment, so up to about four weeks in total. The weekly limit starts at $2,500 and rises with VIP level, and withdrawals are blocked until identity checks are complete. Bitcoin withdrawals run from $50 to $2,500 with a fee of up to $40. Third-party reviewers report payouts often taking more than a month. Our Silver Oak withdrawals page and withdrawal times guide go further.

Can I play video poker online for real money in Pennsylvania?

Yes, through state-licensed sites: Pennsylvania is one of seven states that license real-money online casinos, so check a licensed site's lobby for the video poker variants it carries. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board listed 12 certificate holders and 25 authorized brands as of February 13, 2026, and those sites answer to the board on bonus terms and payouts. Our offshore partners aren't among them. Players in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh have a regulated choice that most states lack. See Pennsylvania's real money casinos and Pennsylvania casino bonuses.
