Online slots in Maryland

Online slots in Maryland aren't offered by any state-licensed website: the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) says sports wagering and fantasy contests are the only legal real-money online play. Licensed slot machines exist only inside the state's six casinos. This page covers what that means, plus offshore slot RTPs, jackpots and costs in dollars.

MD No state-licensed online casinos · Maryland guide

Key takeaways

  • Maryland licenses no online slot sites; the MLGCA says only sports wagering and fantasy contests operate legally online.
  • Licensed slots are on the floors of six casinos, from Horseshoe Baltimore to MGM National Harbor. Casino age is 21.
  • Offshore slot sites aren't licensed by Maryland, so there's no state regulator to complain to.
  • At a 96.25% RTP, $300 in spins carries an expected cost of about $11.25; at 94% it's $18.
  • Slot wins of $2,000 or more trigger a W-2G for payments in 2026.

Are real money online slots legal in Maryland?

No state-licensed site offers real money online slots in Maryland. The regulator's legal vs. illegal online gaming page (opens in a new tab) says that, apart from sports wagering and fantasy competitions, no other forms of real-money online or mobile gaming operate legally in the state. That covers slots, video poker and online table games.

Changing this isn't a matter of a quick bill. A 2025 Department of Legislative Services fiscal note on HB 1140 (opens in a new tab) says online casino gaming would need approval by Maryland voters at a referendum. For the wider legal picture, see Maryland gambling laws and our Maryland online casino hub.

Federal law doesn't settle the question either way. UIGEA targets businesses that accept payments for gambling that's unlawful under state law; it doesn't itself make a player's bet a federal crime. State law decides, and Maryland's regulator has been clear that online slots aren't part of its licensed market.

Where Maryland slots are licensed: the six casinos

If you want slots with a state regulator behind them, Maryland's answer is a casino floor. The fiscal note lists six commercial casinos. No tribal casinos are recorded for Maryland in the sources we rely on.

  • Horseshoe Baltimore, in Baltimore, the state's largest city (568,271 residents)
  • MGM National Harbor
  • Live! Anne Arundel
  • Hollywood Perryville, in Cecil County
  • Ocean Downs

Offshore online slots Maryland players see

Search for online slots from Baltimore and most results lead to offshore casinos. They're based outside the US and licensed, if at all, by bodies such as Anjouan or Curaçao. Maryland doesn't license or supervise them.

In practice that means no Maryland regulator to take a complaint to, no state-backed protection of your balance, and terms the casino writes and can change. The MLGCA's own page lists cease-and-desist letters it has sent to unlicensed operators, including 31 Bets Casino (March 2, 2026) and FortuneJack, and says the list isn't comprehensive.

  • Software: many offshore slot sites run RealTime Gaming (RTG) or its Spinlogic Gaming catalog.
  • Payments: cards often decline, so crypto is common. See Maryland crypto casinos.
  • Payouts: weekly caps of $2,500 to $5,000 are typical at our partners, per their published terms.
  • Other brands: several big offshore names, including Ignition, Bovada, Cafe Casino and Slots.lv, list Maryland as an excluded state in their own terms.

For a side-by-side view of what you give up, read offshore vs. state-licensed casinos.

RTG online slots reported at partner casinos

Silver Oak's mobile page names RTG titles such as Storm Lords, T-Rex II, Magic Mushroom, Cash Bandits 3 and Vegas Lux. SlotoCash's homepage lists Shadow Gods, Cleopatra's Gold and Cash Bandits 3 among its games. The specs below come from third-party slot databases, chiefly SlotCatalog; where a figure isn't published, we say so.

What online slots cost Maryland players: RTP in dollars

Return to player (RTP) is a long-run average across millions of spins. The house edge is simply 100% minus RTP, and the expected cost of a session is total stake × house edge. Short sessions swing wildly either way, but the average pulls toward that number.

Expected cost of 300 spins at different stakes
Stake per spinTotal stakedCost at 96.25% RTPCost at 94% RTP
$0.25$75$2.81$4.50
$1$300$11.25$18.00
$5$1,500$56.25$90.00

The 94% figure is the third-party RTP listed for Aztec's Millions, a pooled progressive; 96.25% is listed for Storm Lords, Shadow Gods and Sweet 16. Higher volatility doesn't change the average cost, but it makes long losing runs more likely. Our guides to how slot RTP works and slot volatility go further.

Progressive jackpots and Real Series slots

RTG runs two kinds of jackpot. Pooled progressives such as Aztec's Millions and Jackpot Piñatas collect a share of stakes across many casinos into one growing prize. Real Series games add random jackpots that are local to one casino or a group of sister casinos, and they can land whatever symbols appear on the reels.

Cash Bandits 3 carries two progressive jackpots, a minor and a major, according to SlotCatalog. Megasaur is another progressive title often linked to RTG. Jackpot odds aren't published, and a large jackpot can mean a lower base-game RTP, so treat the meter as entertainment, not a target. See progressive jackpots explained.

Bonus funds usually can't be used on progressive jackpot slots. SlotoCash's welcome terms, for example, exclude progressive jackpot slots from eligible games.

Slot bonuses and free spins: the wagering math

Offshore welcome offers are built for slots, and table games are often excluded or weighted lower. SlotoCash's published terms set 25x wagering on deposit plus bonus, a $20 minimum per bonus, a $10 maximum bet and no max cashout on its welcome series.

Here's what that means on a $100 first deposit with SlotoCash's published 200% match: $100 + $200 = $300 in play, and 25 × $300 = $7,500 to wager. At a 96.25% RTP, the expected loss on $7,500 of spins is $7,500 × 3.75% = $281.25, more than the $200 bonus. Most bonuses lose value on average; they mainly stretch playing time.

How to check an online slot before you play

  1. Set a session budget you can afford to lose and a time limit.
  2. Look up the slot's RTP and volatility from the game's help screen or a slot database; if no RTP is shown, treat that as unknown.
  3. Work out the expected cost: planned spins × stake × (100% − RTP).
  4. If you're using a bonus, confirm the slot counts toward wagering and note the max bet.
  5. Complete identity verification early, since partner casinos require it before any withdrawal.
  6. Stop when the budget or time is up, win or lose.

No pattern or system changes the result of a spin. Slots aren't "hot" or "due", as our hot and cold slots myth guide explains.

Taxes on slot wins for Maryland players

Gambling winnings are taxable federal income wherever you play. The IRS instructions for Form W-2G (opens in a new tab) set a $2,000 reporting threshold for slot, bingo and keno winnings paid in 2026, with no regular withholding on slots.

From tax year 2026, the 2025 federal tax law caps the deduction for gambling losses at 90% of losses, and only up to your gambling gains, as reported; check IRS guidance before filing. Maryland state tax treatment isn't covered here, so ask a tax professional. Our gambling taxes page explains record keeping.

Keeping slots in check: help in Maryland

Slots are fast, and fast games make it easy to spend more than planned. If play stops feeling like entertainment, the Maryland Alliance for Responsible Gambling at mdgamblinghelp.org (opens in a new tab) offers state resources.

The National Problem Gambling Helpline, run by NCPG, is 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), with call, text and chat through NCPG's help and treatment page (opens in a new tab). Partner casinos list deposit limits and self-exclusion in their terms, and blocking apps such as Gamban can lock gambling sites on your devices. Start with deposit limits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play real money online slots in Maryland?

Not at any Maryland-licensed site, because none exist. The MLGCA says sports wagering and fantasy contests are the only real-money online play operating legally in the state. Offshore slot sites do accept sign-ups from many US states, but Maryland doesn't license them, and some brands exclude Maryland in their own terms. If you want regulated slots, the state's six casinos are the licensed option. Our Maryland gambling laws page sets out what the rules say.

Which Maryland casinos have slot machines?

All six of the state's commercial casinos are licensed for slots. They are Horseshoe Baltimore, MGM National Harbor, Live! Anne Arundel, Hollywood Perryville in Cecil County, Ocean Downs and Rocky Gap, according to the 2025 legislative fiscal note. Each requires players to be 21 or older. Machine counts and payback figures aren't in our verified facts, so check with each casino. The Maryland hub covers the rest of the state's legal gambling.

What RTP do the RTG slots at Silver Oak and SlotoCash pay?

It varies by game, and RTG doesn't publish every figure. Third-party databases list 96.25% for Storm Lords, reported at Silver Oak, and Shadow Gods, reported at SlotoCash, plus Sweet 16, against 94% for the pooled progressive Aztec's Millions. Many RTG titles have no published RTP at all. RTP is a long-run average, so a single session can land far above or below it. Our explainer on what RTP means shows how to turn it into a dollar cost.

Are offshore online slots rigged for Maryland players?

There's no evidence in our facts that RTG slots are rigged, but offshore games played from Maryland aren't tested under state oversight. Slots use random number generators, and every spin is independent, so past results don't affect the next one. The house edge means losses are likely over time. Without a state regulator, you rely on the casino's own testing claims, so read are online slots rigged before deciding how much trust to give any site.

Do I pay tax on slot winnings in Maryland?

Yes, gambling winnings are taxable federal income, wherever you play. For payments made in 2026, slot wins of $2,000 or more trigger a Form W-2G from the payer, according to IRS instructions. From tax year 2026, losses are reported to be deductible at 90%, and only up to your winnings; check IRS guidance. Offshore casinos may not issue forms, but the income is still reportable. See do I pay tax on casino winnings.

What is the gambling age for slots in Maryland?

You must be 21 to play slots at a Maryland casino, according to the AGA's 2026 State of the States report. Partner casinos set their own age rules: Silver Oak's terms say 21 or the local legal age if higher, while SlotoCash's terms say 18+. On this site we treat 21 as the minimum for Maryland readers. For other states, see our gambling age by state table.

Can I play free slots in Maryland?

Free demo play, with no money staked and no prize, is generally a different thing from gambling. Sweepstakes casinos are another matter: they use coins that can be redeemed for prizes, and the MLGCA has sent cease-and-desist letters to several of them. Many sweepstakes brands now list Maryland as excluded. Read our Maryland sweepstakes casinos page for the details and dates.

Why isn't Decode listed for Maryland slots?

Third-party reviews report that Decode refuses players from Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Washington, so we leave it off every Maryland page. Decode doesn't publish its own state list, so that's reported rather than confirmed. Our other partners don't publish full restricted-state lists either, so confirm eligibility at sign-up. Decode's full profile is in our Decode review for readers in other states.

Which RTG slots does SlotoCash list for Maryland players?

SlotoCash's own site names Cash Bandits 3, Crimson Castle, Shadow Gods, Cleopatra's Gold, Coyote Cash 2, FAT CA$H, Ritchie Valens La Bamba and Buffalo Mania: Thunder Springs among its 400+ slots and casino games. It runs them with Spinlogic, the catalog that carries RTG titles. Third-party specs give Shadow Gods 96.25% RTP with a 1,000x max win and Cleopatra's Gold a 50,000x top prize. Lobbies change, and SlotoCash isn't licensed by Maryland. Our SlotoCash slots page goes title by title.

Can I play Storm Lords online from Maryland?

Only at offshore casinos, since no Maryland-licensed slot site exists. Silver Oak's own mobile page names Storm Lords among its RTG games. Third-party databases list it at 96.25% RTP with a top win of 125,000x the bet, though volatility isn't published. At that RTP, 300 spins at $1 carries an expected cost of $11.25. Silver Oak holds an Anjouan license, not a Maryland one, and Michigan's regulator named it on April 9, 2025. Our Storm Lords review explains its features.

What are Real Series jackpots on slots Maryland players see?

They're random jackpots that RTG adds to some slots, separate from pooled progressives such as Aztec's Millions. A Real Series jackpot is local to one casino or a group of sister casinos and can land whatever symbols show on the reels, so you don't need a special combination. Jackpot odds aren't published. Bonus money often can't be used on jackpot games, and a large win runs into weekly withdrawal caps of $2,500 to $5,000 at our partners. Our answer on Real Series jackpots has more.

How long will $50 last on online slots for a Maryland player?

It depends on your stake per spin, not the deposit. At $0.25 a spin, $50 covers 200 spins, and at a 96.25% RTP the expected cost of putting that $50 through the reels once is about $1.88; any winnings played back in stretch the session further. At $1 a spin, the same $50 is gone in 50 spins if nothing hits. High-volatility games such as Cash Bandits 3 swing harder either way. Set the stake to fit the session. Our penny slots guide covers low-stakes play.

Can Maryland players use a SlotoCash bonus on progressive jackpot slots?

No. SlotoCash's welcome terms exclude progressive jackpot slots from eligible games, and its general terms exclude progressive jackpots by default, so playing one with bonus funds can void promotion winnings. Silver Oak's terms exclude progressives from bonus play too. If you want jackpot games, play them with cash balance only, and remember that offshore weekly caps would spread a large win over many weeks. Our best progressive jackpot casinos list compares the partners that run them.
