Crypto casinos in the District of Columbia

Crypto casinos in the District of Columbia are all offshore: DC licenses no online casino, whatever currency you use. Bitcoin and other coins are how most of these sites take Washington deposits, because bank cards often fail. This page covers which coins are listed, published payout times and caps, fees, price swings and the legal points DC players should know.

DC No state-licensed online casinos · District of Columbia guide

Key takeaways

  • Paying in Bitcoin doesn't change the law: no District agency licenses any online casino.
  • Most offshore sites take several coins in but pay out in Bitcoin only; a few also list Litecoin or Ethereum.
  • Published crypto payout times range from 48 business hours to reports of a month or more.
  • Crypto transfers generally can't be reversed, and the FTC and CFPB warn about scams and price swings.

Are crypto casinos legal in the District of Columbia?

No District law licenses online casinos, so a Bitcoin casino has the same status in Washington as any other offshore site: it holds no DC license. The DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (opens in a new tab) licenses sportsbooks and runs the lottery. Casino games, crypto or otherwise, sit outside its licensing.

The payment method doesn't move the legal line. Our page on DC gambling laws sets out every legal form, and none involves an online casino. We don't say playing at a crypto casino is legal for you, and we don't say you'll be prosecuted. What official sources show is that the District licenses no such site.

Federal law points the same way. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act stops gambling businesses from accepting credit, transfers and checks for unlawful internet gambling, as the text of 31 U.S.C. § 5363 (opens in a new tab) shows. It targets operators, not the player placing a bet. See our UIGEA explainer and the answer to are crypto casinos legal.

Why Bitcoin casinos dominate for Washington players

Card deposits to offshore casinos often fail. Gambling transactions carry merchant category code 7995, and many US banks block that code or treat it as a cash advance with extra fees. The casino card declines guide explains the details.

Crypto avoids the bank's card network, which is why offshore cashiers push it. Fees show the gap too: Silver Oak's banking page (opens in a new tab) lists card deposits with a 3–10% fee and Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum deposits at 0%. That convenience comes with trade-offs, covered below.

Which coins offshore casinos list for DC players

Deposit lists are long; withdrawal lists are short. The table shows what each partner casino publishes or what third-party reviewers report. Check the cashier, because lists change.

Miami Club needs a note. Its Terms of Use (v2.1, September 28, 2026) list the United States as a prohibited jurisdiction, while the site owner's affiliate program confirms US players are accepted. Bitcoin withdrawal speed and caps for DC players

Crypto is often sold as instant. The casino's own review queue usually decides the wait, not the blockchain, and weekly caps decide how much leaves at once.

The two Slot Madness reports can't both describe the usual experience, so plan for the slower one. Blockchain confirmation times aren't published by these casinos either. Our pages on blockchain confirmations and how long Bitcoin withdrawals take explain the network side.

Crypto casino fees: casino, network and exchange

Three separate costs can apply, and casinos publish only the first. SlotoCash lists free Bitcoin withdrawals. Silver Oak lists Bitcoin withdrawal fees of $0–$40, and its terms add an 8% fee (minimum $4) if a deposit wasn't wagered at least once before you cash out.

Network fees for sending coins, and the spread or fee your exchange charges when you buy and sell, sit outside the casino. None of those figures is published by the casinos here, so check your exchange's fee page. Our crypto fees guide shows where each charge appears.

Price swings: the hidden risk of a Bitcoin balance

Crypto prices move sharply. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau noted that as of October 3, 2022, Bitcoin was down more than 70% from its November 2021 high. That kind of drop can change what a withdrawal is worth before you sell it.

Here's an illustrative example. You cash out $1,000 in Bitcoin and the price falls 15% while the request is pending and the coins reach your wallet. If you then sell, you get about $850 before exchange fees. A 15% rise would leave you with about $1,150 instead; neither outcome is something to plan around.

Irreversible payments and crypto casino scams

Crypto lacks the legal protections of a credit card. The FTC warns that crypto payments generally can't be reversed (opens in a new tab), so a deposit sent to the wrong address or a fake site is usually gone.

The CFPB's crypto complaint bulletin (opens in a new tab) counted more than 8,300 complaints from October 2018 to September 2022. Fraud and scams were the most common issue at 40%, and "money was not available when promised" made up 16%. Report crypto scams to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Unofficial mirror sites that copy a casino's name and layout are a particular risk. Always reach a casino through its known domain and read our guides on crypto casino scams and casino mirror sites.

How DC players fund a crypto casino account, step by step

If you decide to go ahead despite the lack of a DC license, take each step slowly. Mistakes with addresses can't be undone.

  1. Read the casino's terms for prohibited places, withdrawal caps and the coins it pays out in before you buy anything.
  2. Buy the coin through a US exchange account in your own name, noting its fees.
  3. Move the coins to a wallet you control, and keep its recovery phrase offline.
  4. Copy the deposit address from the casino cashier, then check the first and last characters match before sending.
  5. Send a small test amount first if the minimum allows; Lightning Bitcoin minimums start at $5 at several sites.
  6. Verify your account early with photo ID and proof of address, so a later withdrawal isn't held up.
  7. Record every deposit and withdrawal in dollars on the day it happens, for budgeting and tax time.

Our guides on how to buy Bitcoin for casinos and setting up a crypto wallet walk through each stage.

Do crypto casinos skip ID checks?

No, not at payout time. SlotoCash's own support page requires photo ID and a recent utility bill before any withdrawal. A third-party review says Decode asks for ID, proof of address and a selfie with the ID, and may ask crypto depositors for photo ID as well. Paying in Bitcoin doesn't remove these checks; it can simply delay them until you ask for money back.

Send documents promptly and keep copies. For a list of what's usually requested, see casino KYC documents.

Crypto, taxes and staying in control

Gambling winnings are taxable federal income whether they're paid in dollars or Bitcoin, and offshore casinos may not send a W-2G. Selling crypto can raise its own tax questions, so ask a tax professional how to report both. Our page on real money casinos in DC covers the gambling tax side for Washington players.

Fast, round-the-clock crypto deposits can make spending harder to track. If that's happening, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), by call or text. See crypto and problem gambling for practical blocks, such as removing saved wallet addresses.

Royal Ace and Slot Madness both list a wide range of coins, which is why they appear here. They're offshore casinos, not licensed by the District of Columbia or any US state, so check DC law before depositing. There's no District regulator to hear a complaint, no state protection for balances, and payout speed depends on the casino. Reported minimums are $5 by Lightning Bitcoin and $30 by card. Royal Ace's license is reported as Costa Rica by one reviewer and as none by others. See the Royal Ace review.

Slot Madness Casino: $2,500 Welcome Bonus + 50 Free Spins, via our link (new players, 21+ or 18+ where allowed, terms apply). Frequently asked questions

Are Bitcoin casinos legal in Washington, DC?

No District agency licenses Bitcoin casinos or any other online casino. The Office of Lottery and Gaming licenses sportsbooks and runs the lottery, and nothing else online. Using crypto doesn't change that status. We don't say playing is legal for you or that you'll be prosecuted; DC's official sources simply license no such site. The District of Columbia online casino hub has the wider legal picture.

Which crypto do offshore casinos accept from DC players?

Bitcoin is accepted everywhere on our list, and most sites also take Litecoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash. Several reportedly add Tether, Dogecoin and XRP. Withdrawals are narrower: SlotoCash and Silver Oak list Bitcoin only, Miami Club adds Ethereum, and third-party reviews say Slot Madness pays in Litecoin too. Check the cashier, because lists change. A coin-by-coin comparison is on what crypto casinos accept.

How fast are crypto casino withdrawals for DC players?

For DC players, crypto payouts from offshore casinos take anywhere from two business days to several weeks, depending on the site. SlotoCash publishes 48 business hours and Miami Club 48 hours, while Silver Oak lists a 7–10 business-day review plus 7–10 days for payment. Third-party reports for Royal Ace range from 7–10 pending days to a month or more. See fast payout casinos in DC for more on speed.

Are there fees on Bitcoin casino deposits and withdrawals?

Yes, there can be, though casinos publish only their own charges. SlotoCash lists free Bitcoin withdrawals, and Silver Oak lists $0–$40, plus an 8% fee if a deposit wasn't wagered once. Network fees and your exchange's spread come on top and aren't published by the casinos. Add them up before you deposit. The casino withdrawal fees page explains each type.

Can a crypto casino deposit from DC be reversed?

Usually not. The FTC warns that crypto payments lack the legal protections of credit cards and generally can't be reversed, so a payment sent to the wrong address or a fake site is normally lost. That's why checking the address and using the casino's known domain matter so much. If you're scammed, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Our page on whether Bitcoin is safe for casinos covers the risks.

Do crypto casinos still ask for ID?

Yes, most do before paying out. SlotoCash's support page requires photo ID and a recent utility bill before any withdrawal, and third-party reviewers say Decode may ask crypto depositors for photo ID and a selfie. A site that promises no checks at all deserves extra caution. Verifying early avoids a stalled first withdrawal. Read why casinos ask for documents for the reasons.

What happens if Bitcoin's price drops while my withdrawal is pending?

You bear the loss once the casino has sent coins at the earlier price. If $1,000 in Bitcoin arrives and the price has fallen 15%, selling would return about $850 before fees. The CFPB noted Bitcoin fell more than 70% from its November 2021 high by October 2022, so big moves do happen. Converting promptly limits the exposure. The stablecoins guide explains dollar-pegged alternatives.

Is crypto gambling taxable for DC residents?

Yes, gambling winnings are taxable federal income whether you're paid in dollars or crypto. For 2026, slot wins of $2,000 or more fall into W-2G territory, though offshore casinos may not issue a W-2G, so keep your own dollar records. Selling the crypto may have its own tax treatment, so a tax professional is worth asking. Our gambling taxes guide explains the basics and recordkeeping.

Can I use USDT at crypto casinos from Washington, DC?

Several offshore casinos list Tether for deposits, but few pay out in it. Miami Club’s own banking page lists USDT deposits and Bitcoin or Ethereum withdrawals; its Terms of Use list the United States as prohibited, while the site owner’s affiliate program confirms US players are accepted, so confirm at sign-up. Third-party reviews list USDT deposits at Royal Ace, Slot Madness and Planet 7, with Bitcoin as the main payout coin. No DC license covers any of them. See USDT at casinos and what is USDT.

Is Litecoin faster than Bitcoin for DC casino payouts?

Not in any way the casinos publish, because their review queue usually sets the wait, not the coin. Most casinos on this page pay out in Bitcoin only; third-party reviews say Slot Madness also pays in Litecoin, with pending times reported at 7 to 10 days by one reviewer and minutes by another. Network confirmation times aren’t published by these casinos. Litecoin is listed for deposits at SlotoCash and Silver Oak. Read is Litecoin faster than Bitcoin and our Litecoin banking guide.

What is the minimum Bitcoin withdrawal for DC players?

It ranges from $20 to $100 at the casinos covered here. Silver Oak’s banking page lists $50, SlotoCash and Miami Club list $100, and LCB reports $20 at Royal Ace and Slot Madness. Withdrawals below the minimum stay in your balance, and an unwagered deposit at Silver Oak can trigger an 8% fee, at least $4. Check the cashier, since figures change. Our answer on the minimum withdrawal explains how floors work, and Royal Ace Bitcoin covers that casino’s figures.

Does Royal Ace accept crypto from DC players?

Third-party reviews say Royal Ace takes Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether and XRP, with withdrawals in Bitcoin, wire or check. Reported minimums are $5 by Lightning Bitcoin and $30 by card, and the weekly cap is $2,500. Pending times are reported at 7 to 10 days by AskGamblers and a month or more by LCB. Reviewers report its license as Costa Rica or none, and it holds no DC license. See Royal Ace banking and Royal Ace withdrawals.

Do I need a crypto wallet to use a Bitcoin casino in DC?

In practice, yes: you buy coins on an exchange and send them from a wallet you control. Buy through a US exchange account in your own name, move the coins to your wallet and keep its recovery phrase offline. Copy the casino’s deposit address from the cashier and check the first and last characters before sending, because transfers generally can’t be reversed. Withdrawals go back to a wallet address you supply. Our guides to crypto wallets and how to buy Bitcoin for casinos walk through each step.
