What is Deuces Wild? It's a video poker game where all four 2s are wild, so each deuce can stand in for any card you need. That makes strong hands far more common, including five of a kind, so the pay table starts higher than in Jacks or Better. GamesHub puts RTG's version at 97% to 99% RTP, depending on the pay table.
In Deuces Wild, every 2 is wild; in the standard game the smallest paying hand is three of a kind, not a pair.
Wild cards create hands that don't exist in regular poker, such as five of a kind and four deuces.
GamesHub gives RTG's Deuces Wild a 97% to 99% RTP range; SlotCatalog shows no figure, so check the pay screen.
At a 1% to 3% edge, $625 of play costs about $6.25 to $18.75 on average.
Our partner casinos are offshore and not licensed by any US state, so check your state's law first.

What is Deuces Wild video poker? A quick definition
Deuces Wild is single-draw video poker played with a 52-card deck in which the four 2s are wild. You're dealt five cards, hold the ones you want, draw once, and the final hand is paid from a fixed table. A deuce counts as whatever card gives you the best possible hand.
Wild cards change the whole economy of the game. Because 2s make hands easier to complete, a single high pair is far too common to pay, so the standard game starts paying at three of a kind. The prizes for each hand are reshuffled too, which is why you can't judge a Deuces Wild pay table by Jacks or Better standards.
RealTime Gaming, the studio behind most games at our partner casinos, released its version on July 1, 2016, according to SlotCatalog, and lists its signature feature as the five-of-a-kind payout. For other short answers about games and money, see our questions hub.
Deuces Wild hand rankings: where wild cards add new hands

How to play Deuces Wild online, step by step
Open the pay screen and note what three of a kind, a straight, a flush and a full house pay. These common hands decide most of the return.
Choose a coin size small enough that the maximum coin count fits your budget, since the top prize usually pays best at max coins.
Deal. Count your deuces before you look at anything else.
Hold every deuce, then decide which other cards to keep based on how many deuces you have.
Draw once and collect any win. Skip optional gamble features unless you've decided in advance that the extra risk is part of your budget.
GamesHub's RTG game list (opens in a new tab) gives Deuces Wild an RTP of 97% to 99%, and SlotCatalog shows no figure. The range reflects the fact that casinos can run different pay tables on the same game. RTG's family of deuces games has more specific third-party figures, listed below.

Those figures assume accurate play. In a wild-card game, holds are less intuitive than in Jacks or Better, so the gap between the listed RTP and what a casual player actually gets can be wider. Compare Bonus Deuces Wild and Loose Deuces if you want a deuces game with a single published figure.
What Deuces Wild costs per session in dollars
Expected loss equals total wagered × house edge. With GamesHub's range, the edge sits somewhere between 1% and 3%, so the table shows both ends for 500 hands at three stakes. The hand count is an example only.

Deuces Wild strategy starts with counting your 2s
Strategy in Deuces Wild is organized by the number of deuces dealt. Each count leads to a different set of priorities, and charts for the game are usually split into those sections. A few principles hold across most published charts:
Never discard a deuce. It's the most valuable card in the deck.
With four deuces you already hold the hand; keep all five cards.
With no deuces, a single high card is worth little, because high pairs don't pay; charts favor draws to straights, flushes and royals instead.
Pairs matter less than in Jacks or Better; two pair is usually reduced to one pair to give the draw more chances.
Following a chart doesn't overturn the house edge; it only keeps you near the listed RTP. Practice in free-play mode before staking money, and use the RNG explainer to see why past hands don't affect the next deal.

If you want the simplest route to a known return, Jacks or Better wins on paper. If you enjoy more frequent big-looking hands and accept a range of possible returns, Deuces Wild offers that. Our best video poker game page ranks RTG's variants by published RTP.
Deuces Wild with a bonus: what the terms say
Bonuses at offshore casinos are designed around slots. Video poker is usually allowed only at higher wagering or at a reduced weighting, and sometimes not at all. Silver Oak's offer page sets 60x for video poker against 30x for slots; LCB reports the same 60x for video poker at Royal Ace; and a third-party review says comp points redeemed at Planet 7 carry 60x for video poker. That doubles the wagering a deuces player must clear.
Read up on wagering requirements before opting in, because playing an excluded game with an active bonus can void winnings.
Is real money Deuces Wild legal in the US?
State law decides. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island license real-money online casinos, and their licensed sites carry video poker under state oversight. In other states, no state licenses online casinos. Our partners are offshore operators that no US state licenses or regulates.
That gap matters in practice: offshore sites set their own terms, and there's no state regulator or state-backed balance protection if a withdrawal stalls. Our page on player protections offshore vs licensed lays out the differences.
Where to play Deuces Wild online: offers via our links
Planet 7 leads because a third-party review names Deuces Wild among its games and counts 14 video poker variants. Royal Ace is second: it runs RTG, Deuces Wild appears in the lobby game list reported for its group of sister casinos, and LCB reports video poker counts toward its bonus at 60x. Silver Oak is third; it runs RTG and its own terms allow video poker at 60x, but our sources don't name Deuces Wild in its lobby, so check the casino's lobby. All three are offshore and not licensed by any US state; check your state's law. We earn a commission from these links, and the order is commercial.

Frequently asked questions
Why is it called Deuces Wild?
"Deuce" is the old name for a 2 in a deck of cards, and in this game all four 2s are wild. A wild deuce can become any rank and suit, so it fills straights, flushes and full houses that would otherwise miss. That's also why the standard game doesn't pay a single pair. Our wild glossary entry covers wild cards and wild symbols more broadly.
In Deuces Wild video poker, what's the smallest hand that pays?
In the standard game, three of a kind is the lowest paying hand. Wild 2s make pairs too easy to pay, so the table starts one step higher than in Jacks or Better. Some variants change the ladder, so open the pay screen of the exact game you're playing. Our video poker pay table entry explains what to look for on that screen.
What RTP does RealTime Gaming's Deuces Wild pay?
GamesHub lists RTG's Deuces Wild at 97% to 99%, and SlotCatalog shows no figure, so we can't give a single number. The range means a house edge of roughly 1% to 3%, depending on the pay table and how accurately you play. Related RTG games have single figures: Bonus Deuces Wild at 99.15% and Loose Deuces at 99.07%, both per SlotCatalog. See what RTP means for the method.
Is Deuces Wild a better video poker pick than Jacks or Better?
It depends on what you value. By published figures, Jacks or Better's 99.54% (GamesHub) is a single, higher number, while Deuces Wild's 97% to 99% range could sit above or below it depending on the pay table. Deuces Wild produces strong hands more often but has a harder strategy. Our Jacks or Better explainer sets out the simpler game.
Should you ever throw away a deuce?
No. Every published Deuces Wild strategy treats a deuce as the most valuable card in the hand, because it can become anything. Discarding one lowers your chance of every strong hand at once. The hard decisions are about the other cards, which depend on how many deuces you were dealt. Our video poker strategy guide explains how charts handle each deuce count.
What is five of a kind in Deuces Wild?
It's four cards of the same rank plus at least one wild deuce, such as four 8s and a 2. The hand can't exist in a regular 52-card game without wild cards. SlotCatalog lists the five-of-a-kind payout as the main feature of RTG's Deuces Wild. It ranks below a wild royal flush and above a straight flush. Our Deuces Wild game guide shows the full ranking.
Can I play Deuces Wild with a welcome bonus?
Sometimes, at a price. Silver Oak's own offer page sets 60x for video poker against 30x for slots, and LCB reports the same 60x split at Royal Ace. SlotoCash's terms exclude video poker from bonus play by default. Higher wagering means more of the game's edge eats into the bonus before you can withdraw. Read our guide to video poker bonuses before you opt in.
Where can I play Deuces Wild legally in the US?
State-licensed online casinos operate only in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island, and those are the places with state-regulated online video poker. Elsewhere, offshore casinos offer it without any US state license. State law sets the rules for players, so check yours. Our states with legal online casinos page lists the details.
What is the max win in Deuces Wild video poker?
SlotCatalog lists RTG's Deuces Wild with a top win of 4,000x the bet. On a $1.25 hand that's $5,000, and on a $0.25 hand it's $1,000. The biggest prizes sit with the rarest hands, the natural royal flush and four deuces, so most sessions end without one. Paying hands can also differ between pay tables, so read the pay screen to see which hand earns the top prize at your stake. Our Deuces Wild game guide lays out the full hand ladder, and what volatility means explains why big hands are so rare.
How much does Deuces Wild cost to play at $1 a hand?
Over 500 hands at $1, you'd wager $500, and Deuces Wild's 1% to 3% house edge (from GamesHub's 97% to 99% RTP range) puts the expected loss at $5 to $15. The low end assumes a generous pay table and accurate holds; the high end covers a tighter table or loose play. Single sessions swing far from these averages either way. The formula is total wagered × house edge, explained in our casino math basics guide. Set a session budget first, using the tools in our responsible gambling hub.
Is online Deuces Wild legal in Pennsylvania?
Yes, at state-licensed sites: Pennsylvania licenses real-money online casinos, and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board listed 12 interactive gaming certificate holders and 25 authorized sites as of February 13, 2026. Video poker on those sites runs under state oversight. Our offshore partners are not among them and hold no Pennsylvania license, so there's no state regulator to turn to if a dispute arises there. Read our Pennsylvania online casinos page for the licensed market, and offshore casino legality for the wider picture.
What is the difference between Deuces Wild and Bonus Deuces Wild?
Both use four wild 2s, but Bonus Deuces Wild reshuffles the pay table to reward certain big hands, and RTG's version carries a single published RTP of 99.15% (SlotCatalog). Plain Deuces Wild is listed as a 97% to 99% range by GamesHub, because pay tables vary. Strategy charts differ slightly too, since a changed table changes which draws are worth chasing. If a known figure matters to you, the bonus version is easier to judge. Compare them on our Bonus Deuces Wild page and Loose Deuces page.
Which pays back more, Sevens Wild or Deuces Wild?
By published figures, no: SlotCatalog lists RTG's Sevens Wild at 93.15% RTP, a 6.85% house edge, while Deuces Wild sits at 97% to 99% per GamesHub. On $500 of total bets, that's about $34 of expected loss on Sevens Wild against $5 to $15 on Deuces Wild. SlotCatalog also lists Sevens Wild's top win at 800x, against 4,000x for Deuces Wild. Unless you prefer its feel, the deuces game is better value. Our best video poker game page ranks RTG's variants.
Can I play Deuces Wild video poker on a smartphone?
Usually yes, through the casino's mobile browser rather than an app. Third-party reviews describe Planet 7 as instant play in Android and iOS browsers with no downloadable app, and Royal Ace is typed as instant play, mobile and download. Silver Oak's own mobile page lists browser play on iPhone, Android and tablets. None of these sources confirms which video poker titles load on mobile, so check the casino's lobby on your device. Our Planet 7 mobile page and instant play explainer cover how browser casinos work.
